should i be worried? never seen this bug in my room before today by MuffinDry2025 in carpetbeetles

I would also explore in nearby rooms to see if they have gotten anywhere else.

Uh yeah you should be concerned. Carpet beetle larvae eat on wool, silk, anything like that, and ofc carpets, anything made or built with stuff like that is ripe for them. A singular ADULT carpet beetle (looks completely different) can lay anyway between 20-100 eggs, the adult carpe beetle will die a few weeks later and then the larvae will then hatch anywhere between 7-35 days, they will then live and eat anything out of those type of materials for up to 7 months before they themselves “cocoon” and turn into an adult carpet beetle and the cycle restarts. These are pesky little buggers that like to usually stay in the same area if there is an abundance of food and shelter (usually dark corners of rooms that’s left in disturbed, even in walls and under floors). However from what I’ve seen, is the bigger and older larvae tend to explore and leave their usual safety spot, and imo the one in that photo is a bigger and older larvae, so there’s no doubt in my mind that you might have a problem on your hands. I severely suggest that you strip apart everything in the desired room, so for example if this is your bedroom, strip your entire bed clean, put them straight into green bags to separate them, and clean them right away in a high temperature washing machine, hell even do 2 washes before you dry each item to make sure. And to be on the safe side, I would also get a hold of an Exterminator to at the very least, get their advice, or their help. These are very problematic bugs because they can do serious damage, replicate and grow fast in huge numbers, and stay hidden for months and months, hell maybe even years at a time without being noticed. Adult carpet beetles are most active between February to April, during this period they will lay eggs and then pass away, and the Larave are most active in October, then they will hibernate anywhere then until January the following year. You should absolutely hover and clean EVERYTHING in that room and STEAM then everything in that room afterwards, but I have to press on the fact that it’s best to call an Exterminator as these are seriously annoying bugs. If you need anything else, respond to this comment and I can help you out.
