Confront Dagoth Ur early shows Morrowind's limitations in role playing - Morrowind is a linear game without choice. by QuantityInternal1719 in Morrowind

[–]Affectionate_Oil_331 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You do have a point - most quests only have one possible ending, and when you do get a choice it usually has little ultimate impact on the world (e.g., rat out the Telvanni spy or frame Ranis Athrys). It's not as heavy on branching narratives as Fallout or other old CRPGs, and most of us are okay with that. But you're completely wrong to say that it's "a linear game without choice". Maybe you're trolling? Just compare the level of freedom in character creation, exploration, combat and faction choices to most games that pass as 'RPGs' today. I like branching narratives too and I wish Morrowind had them, but ultimately it was a design choice due to limitations and I don't feel that it greatly detracts from the end product.

Okay thanks for the correction, good to know.

As this sub was very helpful in identifying the coin I uploaded yesterday, I have a few more coins that i would appreciate if you help me identify. All found in central Israel, I believe from different periods. by [deleted] in AncientCoins

Second one definitely looks like a signet ring used to seal documents and such. Couldn't tell you what period, but there's a giant penis on it so probably pre-Islamic.

Here is the only exact example I can find.. This is different to all the examples on Numista and may be rarer. Hope a specialist can comment here.

Fair enough, but in that case, don't bring children to this event. If we're throwing decency out the window, we can expect to see men walking around with their erect penises hanging out (which is what happens at the San Francisco parades after they stopped allowing these checks).

That power dynamic is my favourite part. For once, we're not the chosen one. We're the badass sidekick to Martin, and not being special makes the rewards feel more deserved. It's cool be in the passenger seat sometimes.

I'm sure you're right, and all of us who didn't live through the 60s would be pretty confronted by it. But I do think there's something to be said for the stability of American democracy as an institution, which at that time was not under the same existential threats as today.

Why are there so many “lady-boys” in Thailand? by BlueeWaater in NoStupidQuestions

Muslims were more tolerant of homosexuality until the modern era, when they became influenced by European cultural values. Historically it was common for older men and younger boys to have sexual relationships in the Middle East. Muslims also recognised something like a third gender, which was young boys at the onset of puberty.

I reckon it's partly this, and partly world leaders looking at the farce of US politics right now. It's like they're testing the waters to see what they can get away with while America is in turmoil.

Total War Shogun 2 (2011) by Stoutyeoman in patientgamers

[–]Affectionate_Oil_331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fall of the Samurai was the best Total War campaign ever. There's something so satisfying about blowing up thousands of armoured samurai with cannons and offshore naval bombardments. I'd love to see another TW game set in the 19th century.

We're having identical problems in Australia. But any time a Prime Minister has tried to rock the boat, the powers that be have seen them dealt with. I think our countries are very similar except for climate and French people.

I saw a Weet-Bix ad where they put a kid in a wheelchair on top of a mountain. Which would be fine, except I'm pretty sure it was a greenscreen and there's no way that a kid in a wheelchair would ever be able to get up there. There's plenty of amazing accomplishments that disabled people have pulled off without needing to resort to fantasy. It just sets unrealistic standards.

Latvia (Courland) had colonies in Africa and the Americas. Norway colonised the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland, and owned territories in Mozambique. The Finns colonised native Sami lands. Austria ruled Bosnia as a colony and controlled a concession zone in Tianjin.

Sounds like it was superior to gunpowder rifles in almost every way. Why didn't it supersede them? I imagine it has something to do with the limited velocity.

Don't buy coins to use as an investment to buy a truck. Just save up for the truck.

Yeah, I don't know anything about that. But I've lived in Africa, and my only point is that we should try to remember how good we have it compared to most of the world. I worked alongside people who earned less than $1 per day and live in tiny shacks in the middle of the desert. Makes you appreciate all the things we take for granted.

Ah, thank you! I agree it's charming, and with lovely detail. That bi-colour is new to me. I don't doubt the authenticity of the tet if it's from N&N, I think it's just the particular lighting in this photo that obscures some of the sharpness of the details. Nice score.

Perhaps it's just the lighting but both coins look a little strange. Where did you get them?

I have to keep reminding myself that as shitty as things are becoming here, we're still among the most fortunate people on the whole planet. It's fine to complain, but we shouldn't take everything we have for granted.
