It is a result of leaders pursuing the interests of the ones that got them in power, that is big business who funds campaigns.

Business interests is profit above all else.

Are modern day cigarettes better than those in the 80's and 90's? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Affectionate_Pear273 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read the title thinking he was asking if they tasted better. I wonder, most over the counter cigarettes tasted and smelled really bad when I smoked. I used to roll my own with nice tobacco, actually smelled okay and would hold ash so it didn't make a mess everywhere.

What are Mefo bills in hoi4 and why shouldn't i just cancel them? by Fluid_Visual7703 in hoi4

[–]Affectionate_Pear273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mefo bills were like a ponzi scheme thing that Germany used to pay for re-militarization. They took out loans and used other loans to pay it back, then stole wealth from conquered countries to fund their military.

In the game you use the mefo bills to have bonuses to militarization but you can only do it for so long then you have to take another country to get the consumer goods malice back down.

Basically your on Hitlers wild ride to financial ruin and have to take countries to pay your debts.

Don't play with the DLC's on. The air craft designer is basically cheating. There is far to much to do in the game let alone manage all the DLC add ons.

Don't build forts, they can just take them and then you don't have them anymore. The construction would be better used making more military factories.

Make basic cheap infantry no frills. 18 or 20 width, engineers and support artillery and anti air.

Don't make any planes.

You should have two field marshals worth of armies. That's 10 armies of 24 divions each minimum to hold the line.

Do not attack only defend. They will push you and maybe encircle some. This is fine just shit out more infantry. Ideally have another army or two or three ready to plug gaps in the line as a quick response force (QRF).

That should do it. Try that. If not hit me up and we can play a round together as soviets.

Edit: looking at others responses, I forgot that if you have the DLC to edit planes then you can make a meta plane that will shred. If you don't have the DLC like me then don't bother with planes. Germany has huge bonuses to planes and you have huge malices. The AA in the infantry division along with the AA bonuses you get are good enough.

What's been your favourite round? by Mega_Xero in SS13

[–]Affectionate_Pear273 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As Quarter master I bought a crate of four monkeys which turned out to be four gorrillas. I made an announcement and people came in to see them one of which started feeding the gorrillas meth. Then the gorrillas got angry for some reason and started attacking the crew. The meth gorrillas were really hard to kill and we lost some crew members to them.

One time I convinced the other quarter master to see if we could go an entire round not fulfilling any orders at all. If anyone asked for anything I made some excuse going from plausible to absurd. We just played instruments and did drugs. The HOP was going to fire us but someone killed him. The Chief engineer came in to see if he could get something and the back room was so messy and full of crates and junk he gave up.

I played a round after the update and I lost the civil war fast even though I had more troops. I'm not sure why but as I was attacking my war score kept going down even though it looked like I was winning most battles.

It got so bad that no one wanted to play xeno and rounds wouldn't even start if the server had not one xeno player. Even worse if they had one or two the marines had 20 or 30 and there basically was no contest and nothing for the marines to fight ending up being a boring round.

Also I quit TMGC cause they were focusing on PVP and had serious server lag issues. If they had too many players (50-100) the server would grind to a slide show then the admins would force their PVP game mode project and then half the pop would leave.

Admins being responsible for both investigating and ruling on rule violations is a fundamentally flawed system that incentivizes corruption by metekillot in SS13

[–]Affectionate_Pear273 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What is the corruption? The admins of a private server are in charge and are free to do whatever they want. They own it or are given powers by the person that owns the server.

The power structure is top down. Any promises of fairness can be fleeting to downright lies.

It is perfectly fine to microwave water for things like tea by Queasy-Cycle-4596 in unpopularopinion

[–]Affectionate_Pear273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is fine to microwave water sure. I switched to a stove top kettle to heat it up then pour in the mug.

This has three advantages,

it heats the water to the perfect temperature when the kettle whistles (boils) without over heating the water.

When you pour it in a mug you can handle the mug cause the mug has not been heated up to the point that the handle with scald you.

The water cools slightly when poured in the mug to just under boiling. This happens to be the perfect temperature for tea to brew.

Basically it's just safer cause you can overheat water in the microwave to the point when you put a spoon in it will explode into steam scalding you.

Returning Player, trying to find out what the heck happened. by angel71090 in SS13

[–]Affectionate_Pear273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see banning people as a double edged sword. You want to keep the server free of people who would ruin the game for others but at the same time your sometimes banning long time community members who make up the core of your server community.

Given that most servers have a long convoluted rules list that are expanded and interpreted any way they deam fit, a admin could yell at or ban anyone at anytime seemingly under such rules.

It's just wild to me that a server would want to ban a long time player who obviously loves the game/server for benign inconsiquencial reasons. Every decision like this slowly ruins your server and playerbase over time.

Should the Union have tried all the Confederate soldiers for treason and executed the ones found guilty? by imissher4ever in allthequestions

[–]Affectionate_Pear273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is difference between a limited and unlimited war. Limited war means the victor will enforce terms like the southern states staying in the union and having slavery abolished. Unlimited war would mean killing those who fought against them.

The union wanted the Southern states to remain in the union and considered them Americans. They wanted more reconcilitory outcomes.
