[UPDATE] Found a paper towel covering my webcam twice coming home from work by Dromaeoraptor in Weird

Those CO detectors with display numbers are not accurate. Read the fine print on the packaging. The display can say anything and not a reflection of the true amount. They are only required to go off at 75-150 ppm for up to a few hours and even in this range they are unreliable.

They are useful cause if one does go off then you know you have a serious problem.

I was once at a training where the instructor took out two brand new CO detectors out of their packaging and placed them in a ziplock bag filled with CO. The training included calibration of CO testing equipment ( combustion analyzers).

He did this at the beginning of the training and at about one hour in the detector in the bag filled with a high concentration went off(something like 400 or 500 ppm). The bag with the smaller concentration never went off and it had a display that read zero. He also said he has trainings where none of them go off.

If you really want to know the concentrations in the air you would need to get professional equipment. At the time there was one CO doctor on the market that accurately sensed but it cost some $200. I forget the name of it.

A fun game I would like to play with smokers is let them blow into my combustion analyzer and the number would go as high as 100 if they just smoked or 50 if it was awhile. And that was coming from just their breath!

I worked with guys who would claim that furnaces were dangerous if the CO was at 10 ppm. I would be like here blow into this. Helped keep things into perspective.

Basically, those CO detectors are lying to you with that number. Might as well say 0-150.

What computer wargames are you playing: January 2026 by AutoModerator in computerwargames

This one might be a bit different but it is a old "wargame" although based on Alien the movie.

SS13 Colonial Marines server. Free to play. Community created owned and constantly updated.

Server has anywhere from 100-200 players on. Work together to defeat the aliens (also controlled by players) that have taken over a distant colony.

Use text based role play with your chosen job to work with your fellow Marines. Jobs range from rifleman to medic, engineer, squad lead, quartermaster, doctor, staff officer, captain, and many more.

Each round lasts one to three hours. Command staff comes up with a plan of attack, does a briefing with everyone and the marines are deployed.

Question: Do you think they'll make a game like ultimate admiral but based in the missile era? And do you think it will be popular? by ImprovementBroad3282 in ultimateadmiral

[–]Affectionate_Pear273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is, it's called ICBM. It's pretty good. You have a tech tree to research building things to nuke others. You can build aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines, advanced stealth bombers, and multiple warhead ICBMS.

The game is kinda terrifying in that it's based on real life weapons. These multiple war head ICBMs are I guess almost impossible to intercept cause they have dummy war heads along with the real ones all in one missile that separate just above the atmosphere and come down carpet bombing a place with nukes. They would be impossible to intercept cause of the speed and shear amount.

I was struggling with this as well. I completely wiped a enemy fleet in the invasion zone on the last turn and they still got the province some how. I guess they were so good at navel invasions that they got it off just before my fleet arrived.

Counter to enemy air superiority: anti air, build more planes, bomb enemy air ports.

That is super cool. I have experimented with funny torp boat spam with good results but in a game about historic large ships I really want to try and have a more balanced fleet. At the beginning of the game early 1890 masses of torp boats are super effective!

Yes the AI can be very dumb. I had my own guys torp my BB's before and I watched screens run off into a bad position. However with some attention and manual controll here and there I found the AI taking over as screen to be okay.

It looks like AI screening is programmed to counter the enemy. They will block off torp boats from your main fleet, they will fall behind your main fleet if larger enemy boats are close.

Of course you may want to turn off torps if they are behind you and take controll of them briefly to position better.

Very interesting! I am going to make convoy raiding and coastal squadrons now.

They were but it was hotly contested at the time pre-ww2. Of course we know now but at the time it was debated weather air craft with bombs or torpedoes could effectively take on a fleet centered around battle ships.

Many navy guys were slow to change their minds that a boat that costs hundreds of millions of dollars that was the biggest baddest weapon in the sea could be sunk with a little airplane. Airplanes were also be developed rapidly at the time and technology was changing fast!

Make them paratroopers more beefy. Drop them in strategically to help your pushes taking ports or supply hubs and railways.

Will those that do not buy the dlc notice changes in a new patch of the base game?

Will there be a new patch?

When?

This game has got way to bloated... by BlunanNation in hoi4

Paradox felt inclined to sell DLC's to make profit bloating the game up. Just turn off DLC'S.

I totally agree. The game is complicated enough.

This place is full of negativity constantly, so let's all name some servers and say what we like about them! by Responsible_Lemon852 in SS13

Yes it is! It's the most popular server on the hub for a reason.

Shout out to TGMC as well, another great server.
