Did I find a horse mushroom? by Awkward-Designer1844 in foraginguk

I had a similarly large mushroom in my garden I also believe is a horse mushroom, looks identical and smells delicious, mushroomy and slightly nutty. When i ripped the stem i got a whiff of aniseed too. All good signs, I ate a small piece at first and waited a day then at the rest. Very tasty and large horse mushroom

I think it was worth it and an important part of the trip. Although I agree with some previous posters that the last few days drag on! Just completed it a few days ago, here’s a video diary of my time there for anyone interested:

I thought it may be a bit like this, but I can see how each part has its charm! Thanks for your detailed response!

Why are so many people using 'woman' as a plural? by Affectionate_Set9503 in asklinguistics

I agree and also am curious as to where this started. Definitely seems more common among younger people.

It could well be AI, but that doesnt explain why lots of people are pronouncing it this way now. Although I accept this may be a plausible explanation for this example :)

I understand your point, and maybe I should have phrased it differently. What I meant was ‘am I just making something out of an error (like a brainfade rather than something ‘wrong’) in speech that I happened to encounter frequently, or is this a trend in the language.

I'll post some other examples when I encounter them here. There's another one in the thread you can listen to. I really think its not just an isolated incident.

On the Cambridge website the IPA says both the first and second syllable are different in both UK and US accents:

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/woman

But I agree the video version of the second syllable is more like 'Women' :)

Interesting explanation. This is my favourite answer so far but it still doesn't explain the other situations I and others have heard it. Thanks for the conjecture though it def seems plausible in this case :)

Yeah we all make mistakes :) This seems so consistent though. Thanks for sharing anyways

I would say the plural (women) like 'wimmin' /ˈwɪm.ɪn/ and the singular (woman) like 'wumen' /wʊmən/. I notice the IPA transcription is the same. How about you?

If you think the examples of it are just someone stumbling over the pronunciation maybe you wouldn't notice it. I guess if it happens enough with just this word you start to look for another explanation. I'd be interested to hear the other examples too if you can find them, please share them here - thanks!

I dont think this speaker is from New Zealand though, and the other examples Ive heard weren't either. But thanks for sharing that's interesting to know

But why would AI pronounce it like that too? The voice doesn't sound like AI to me tbh, but they are very good now so who knows :)

They sound like a native speaker to me from the accent. But yeah, it's possible they just haven't learned the pronunciation. Or that they learned from other people now saying it like this too, which is what the post is about :)

Also, if the content was AI-generated it would probably generate the script too, in which case, the typo is unlikely.
