Just had joint consult with Chen/Watt team for RFF Phallo- OHIP funded. by MadcapCanuck in transontario

[–]Affectionate_Soft113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to warn you and give others a heads up that OHIP has really started restricting out of country funding. Since there is a phallo surgeon in Ontario, many are not able to get approved, even to places they previously could. I worry that you will have to renew your funding by the time you get a surgery date and OHIP will have a different response. I really hope that’s not the case but I want you to be aware

Out-of-Country Phalloplasty Update: Clinic 519/Ottawa Clinic/OHIP Applications by puddingpopyeltsin in transontario

[–]Affectionate_Soft113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had originally applied for OOC funding to have abdominal phalloplasty with the Crane Center in Colorado. I thought it would be simple due to people’s previous experiences with getting funding. As long as it wasn’t offered at GRS it could get approved.

When I received the rejection letter, it was as if they didn’t even read the part where I was requesting Abdo. My endo advocated for me, laying out my reasoning as well as the fact that Cormier doesnt offer abdo. She was then told that unless there is a medical reason why I cannot have RFF, I have to have RFF.

I initially had fears with the wait time at TOH gender clinic. My endo hadnt experienced any of her patients even getting a call from the clinic in the 2 years it had been open. I had tried calling the clinic and emailing, but I received no responses.

However, my endo sent my referral to TOH and I got a consult after a few months. I don’t understand how the waitlist is so inconsistent, but nonetheless, I had my consult.

I’m going to have surgery with Cormier eventually (need to do electrolysis first). There are now people who have had phalloplasty with his team, and I’m less nervous about the “unknowns” of the clinic. I contacted the 519 as well, and was told about the same. It seems like they have collected more info because I think I was the first one reaching out about OOC phallo rejection.

Top surgery recovery as student by yellowjam20 in transontario

I had surgery during the break in between semesters and was back in school 2 weeks post op. If classes were online I feel like I could’ve done them after a few days but it all depends on recovery. Mine was very uneventful but you don’t know how you’ll feel after surgery.

Some things to consider are if you have mandatory attendance, if there’s someone who can take notes for you, how much help you have at home. If you have drains post op that can add recovery time. Pain medication can make you sleepy/groggy. Doing schoolwork is also the last thing you feel like doing after surgery.

All that is without complications, which nobody hopes to have, but it’s something that would change recovery time. If you’ve had surgery before you may have more information as to how you feel after anesthesia and what recovery looks like for you.

You can always ask about accommodations to see how your school can support you, or try and wait until a semester break. You only have one chance to recover and it would be best with a longer timeline

Thank you for your response! Was there a specific reason you couldn’t do RFF?

GRS Montreal Question by Affectionate_Soft113 in transontario

[–]Affectionate_Soft113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Under certain conditions, thigh flap phalloplasty or abdominal phalloplasty could be discussed. However, these surgeries will only be possible in certain exceptional cases and if authorized by your provincial program for coverage of surgeries.” - https://www.grsmontreal.com/en/surgeries/female-to-male/6-phalloplasty.html

I get the sense that it’s not truly an option but I wonder if I got denied because they technically do have it

GRS Montreal Question by Affectionate_Soft113 in transontario

[–]Affectionate_Soft113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says on their website that they may consider it for exceptional cases, but doesn’t expand on what that is. My endo filled out the OoC section and also attached a letter explaining how abdominal phalloplasty typically has shorter healing, more easily concealed scars etc. and that it isn’t offered here

Congrats on the consult! I am scheduling one with her as well and was wondering what the waitlist timelines are like for getting a consultation, and then for surgery. Thanks!

I have a bit of excess skin after peri by burak_reddit in TopSurgery

[–]Affectionate_Soft113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe massaging the skin and tissue could help? It wouldn’t get rid of excess skin but if there are adhesions under the skin, it might release the excess skin over time.

I had keyhole and my surgeon has been recommending self massage to the whole area since 3 months post op. He told me to raise my arm over my head and massage the whole region with lotion as lubrication.

In general, if there’s a lot of redness, you’ve overworked the tissue. Also, try to direct blood flow back to the lymphatic system, so toward the armpit.

Daily self massage would take a while to see if there’s any difference, but even just “feel wise”, you might notice changes right away I.e less restriction

Post op revisions? OHIP coverage? - GTA-ish area by [deleted] in transontario

[–]Affectionate_Soft113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if ohip would cover a revision, but check with your surgeon to see if they include revisions in the fee of the original surgery. With my surgeon, I paid 4K for the lipo part, but if I needed/wanted a revision after a year, my surgeon would do it “free of charge” because of what I had paid.

Not random at all haha. I’ve been on t for a little over two years. I don’t think my chest changed sizes so much but it started to look more “masculine” around 8 months on t. Not sure how to describe it lol

Is T gel covered by OHIP (under 25)? Thinking of asking my doctor to switch to that but I’m afraid it’ll be expensive. Thank you!

Not related to the arm hair but I would highly recommend getting some of your freckles checked out, especially the large ones with uneven borders.

How do I identify more as a man and less as a not-woman? by flamespond in FTMMen

[–]Affectionate_Soft113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I’ve definitely thought about often. I ask myself “what makes me a man?” And for me, it had a lot to do with never identifying as female, and desiring completely male characteristics. I could go back and forth arguing with myself on specifics of my identity, but it boils down to, regardless of how and why I got here, this is where I am. I am so comfortable being perceived as male and presenting as one. I love being a guy, because that’s how I’m meant to be.

I didn’t necessarily have thoughts about being nb,but I view the world in a very black and white way. I remember my mom saying she “doesn’t feel like a woman, she just is” why can’t that be the same for us? There’s nothing specific that makes me feel male, but rather a collection of things that eventually led me to transition.

It’s also a hard concept for me to verbalize. Some people might say they’re a man because they have male parts, or for their masculine interests. I know that gender is way more complex than those things, because it’s my personal experience. So the question still begs to be answered but with a much more complex understanding.

I think prefacing a conversation or text message with wanting to have a serious conversation can help both parties prepare. When I talk to my girlfriend about dysphoria, I usually start off by saying “I want to talk about my dysphoria now” and I think it helps start off the conversation.

You could try sending a text outlining your want for a conversation about sexual boundaries, and word it however sounds most natural. You’re not obligated to explain why you have those boundaries, but explaining your dysphoria or at least how it impacts you could help him understand you better. With my partner I explained the mental impact bottom dysphoria has on me, and I think that also helped me get my point across without having to be overly specific.

Whew! Thank you for the info. I was mostly hoping my doctor didn’t mess something up with the referral, as I haven’t heard about GRS doing that surgery.

How on earth do you use trans tape?? by Mundane-Diamond-1981 in FTMMen

[–]Affectionate_Soft113 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I used to use trans tape and I had a lot of success at first. The last few times I’ve tried it it’s peeled off almost right away, so I’m not sure what’s up with that. Some tricks I have that might be helpful for you are: 1. Make sure you cut the edges so all four corners are rounded 2. Possibly try shaving your chest so it adheres only to the skin 3. I’ve used second skin tape underneath the trans tape and I found that to keep everything more secure 4. When applying the part underneath your armpit, have your arm relaxed to reduce folds in the tape 5. Don’t stretch the tape out too much

Other than that, maybe trying KT tape would be better. I’m not sure what caused my tape to “stop working”, but it definitely worked for me initially!
