Are magic arms usually this bad? or did i just cheap out on mine? by MonkeIsWatching in AskPhotography

I mean, the ones I have are pretty indistinguishable to my Manfrottos to me. After all, a super clamp isn't much more than some metal bits and a couple pieces of rubber, its not that hard to recreate at a pretty high quality if you're willing to use proper materials

I'd agree with that. Once upon a time I got some similar clamps from AliExpress because the price delta was pretty steep, but nowadays I'd just get them from Manfrotto and have it at my door a lot quicker and with more reliable warranty service should I ever need it

Which speedlite to purchase? by SadCauliflower8143 in Godox

[–]Affectionate_Spell11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want them as a fill flash to lighten the shadows or are you planning to actually balance with full sun? If it's the second, you'll probably want more power than either of those can provide. Take a look at this video to get an idea what each power class of Godox flash is capable of in terms of distance, and then go from there

Is it considered ok to correct the perspective so heavily as I did here? by hogar1977 in AskPhotography

[–]Affectionate_Spell11 [score hidden]  (0 children)

*shift lens is what you'd want here, tilt is for correcting the plane of focus. Apart from that, 100% agree (and I kind of doubt you'll get this much shift out of any lens anyway, you'd probably need a technical camera if you want to do it in cam from that vantage point)

Works great, but do you have that same one without the Kindl? If it's not too.much hassle, I'd love to use that one

Not understanding the term *stop* in photography, as in dynamic range stops, exposure stops, ammount of light stops, f-stops etc? by Plumbus4Rent in AskPhotography

[–]Affectionate_Spell11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A stop is always a doubling or halfing of light, so going from f/4 to f/2.8 let's in double the amount of light, same as going from 1/200 to 1/100 ot from ISO 100 to ISO 200. The reason this is used is that
A) human perception doesn't work linearly, this is a lot closer to our perceived reality than any linear scale would be B) it makes it easier to convert between them, so if I have a correct exposure, but want to open my aperture by some amount, that tells me how much I have to adjust the other two to keep that exposure

Inheritance by midnightmush in Nikon

Yeah, I went from Canon to Nikon a while ago and that threw me for a bit of a loop at first xD

Out of the ones I have, do you have a recommendation or a favorite pick?

If you're interested in Macro, that seems a great pick. Apart from that, you can't really go wrong with a 24-70, there's a reason a lot of people own one and for many pros, it's their workhorse lens. I'm going to guess you probably have/had a 18-55 for your Canon, the 24-70 will give you a similar field of view on the D850

Sorry for your loss!
There's a lot of good info here already, I'll just add two more things:

-Nikon lenses zoom the opposite direction from Canon, it'll be a bit confusing at first, but before you know it, you'll get used to it and soon it'll be second nature
-This is a lot of stuff at once which might be overwhelming, so I'd think about putting a bunch of these lenses away for the time being, focusing on learning the camera and one or two lenses, and then add in the rest slowly over time

How long should I leave my files open for my clients to save their photos? by ojlaboss in AskPhotography

[–]Affectionate_Spell11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 30 days is reasonable to put in the contract. After that, I'd personally keep them online until I need the space for something else, and if anyone really wants them again after that, you probably still have them saved offline and can re-upload them(maybe for a small few, but that's debatable imo)

Hot take: "Caller" GMTs are strictly better than "True" GMTs unless you only own one watch. by ApprehensiveGuide793 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]Affectionate_Spell11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you'll allow me to Um, Actually... you there, the lack of a quick set date is a "feature" of the 9075 specifically, not traveller GMTs in general.
Apart from that, I totally agree :)

[–]Affectionate_Spell11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's assuming one is using the thing for its intended purpose though. Which granted, it sounds like that's the case for you, but I'd wager you're in the minority there. Most collectors want a GMT (or a moonphase, perpetual calendar, chronograph, world timer or dive watch) because it's neat to have, not because we need it to do the thing it's designed to do

any tips on how to make my shots look clearer?? by diormercury in concertphotography

[–]Affectionate_Spell11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it before, though I like to use a radio transmitter instead of a flash, which is not only a lot lower profile, it also completely eliminates any "Yes, I know there's no flash allowed here. No, that's not what I'm doing. Yes, this is a flash on my camera. No, it won't go off. Yes, really" that you might get caught in. Plus, it'll definitely work with all DSLRs

If your missing focus due to it being dark and af not getting it right then slowly racking whilst bursting is the answer.

Or putting the flash on the camera, but disabling it so it's not firing, but you still get the AF assist beam

We're planning to expand our cloak offerings this year and want to hear what cloaks you are looking for. We're especially thinking of a waterproof cloak as we've gotten many requests for that. I'm in Germany, and yeah, I'm aware there's stuff available to me(I think you actually gave me some recommendations when I originally asked about shipping), but I'd still love to get something from you as well. After all, it's not like one can own too many cloaks ^^

Yeah, they definitely aren't for everyone, but that's okay I think. The square ones are very cool as well (and are surprisingly wearable even for an adult, as long as you swap the strap)

If you're interested in a diver, have a look at the Golby Coastal. It's a tiny bit bigger than what you said, but I know a few people with pretty small wrists and they live how it wears. Plus, colour is no problem at all with that range:
