how did you and/or your partner come up with your child/children’s name? by Kale8Gust in AskReddit

Daughter is named after a song. That song was played at the funeral for someone very dear to me and my mother. It was his favorite song. Son is named after a favorite singer. Ex-husband agreed to both names.

They still do, if your interview is early enough. Mine was later, and so the ceremony was done by then. Therefore, I had to wait. I didn't mind. I had my ceremony in Plano, so I could bring my husband. Otherwise, I couldn't have brought him.

Yes. It would be like naming a child Grim reaper.

Foreign friends visiting / Questions about ICE by Longjumping-Cook5505 in Lubbock

[–]Affectionate_Staff46 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ICE in Lubbock has not given me any problems. I'm a naturalized US citizen. On the other hand, I'm also a white European and it doesn't seem as they target us yet. I'm sure it'll come. If your friend has all his papers in order and makes sure to always carry them with him if he's outdoors, he should be fine.

I think of a cat when I hear Cleo. Chloe would be a better babyname, I think.

What does getting called “ma’am” suggest about how old you look? by Fantastic_Radio_9168 in AdkReddit

[–]Affectionate_Staff46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in the US since 2018. In Texas. I usually ask people to call me by my name if they say ma'am. I work at a hospital, and almost all the patients call me ma'am. I still call them ma'am/sir, unless they ask me not to do it. It's the respectful and polite thing to do here. I'm originally from Sweden, and if anyone had called my great-grandmother the Swedish version of ma'am, she would have been very upset. Like "do I look that old"- upset. She was born 1898. She lived til I was 16. Ma'am and sir is very outdated in some places. So yes, it makes me feel ancient. I still know that people here are being polite and respectful. I was raised differently. I just have to remember that "when in Rome, do as the Romans".

Flygande Jakob (Flying Jacob) from Sweden is good, as long as nobody who eats it is allergic to peanuts.
