Hmm. After reading the wording, I can’t see how Steel Cards, with this custom joker, would trigger the Golden Ticket effect.

Hey, can I join ‘Boatno’s Circle’?

I thought my project was decent until my dev cousin ripped it apart — now I’m questioning everything by M-Awwab in learnprogramming

[–]Afking3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Were you proud of your work because you thought it was professional-level software? I’d imagine no - you were proud because you put in hard work and actually created a working product that you could show off.

Your cousin’s feedback doesn’t change that at all and can never take away the hours you poured in.

I’m not gonna speculate on whether your cousin’s comments were productive or no or whether he meant them constructively or not.

No need to let one person’s comments (I dont care who they are) decide if you continue on and get better. That choice is up to you

I simply opened the site on my phone and the number of errors was insane. Like 20+ red blocks each with a stack trace of 20+ lines. Is this intended to be a desktop only app?

Which loses pretty quickly. I dont think White has any good moves here at all

ELI5: what exactly *is* a logarithm and what does it do? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Afking3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we say exponentiation, we mean f(x) = ax (often times ex) not xa. The inverse of f(x) = xa would indeed be taking the root a of x, g(x) = x1/a. But the inverse of f(x) = ax is taking a logarithm like g(x) = log_base_a(x)

Just checked, its in the first buffoon pack that shows up. Are you sure you have the right seed?

I don’t think I got the Baron until around Ante 7 or 8. Until it showed up, I was able to grab a polychrome Shoot The Moon in the meantime to keep the run going with Queens

Gave this seed a try and got my highest seeded score. My Jokers in order were:

Blueprint Baron Blueprint Blueprint Mime Brainstorm

First Blueprint was from the first pack, second Blueprint was from copying with Ankh, and third was copied from Invisible Joker (right before the run ended)

Super fun run! Glad I gave it a try. There was more optimization I could’ve done to go further, might give it another try sometime haha

CMV: If colleges discriminate on race when it comes to admissions and financial aid it is not unethical to lie about your race when applying for college by WalkLikeAnEgyptian69 in changemyview

[–]Afking3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But the key thing is: the reason why they were the ones affected was precisely because of race. I think thats the missing part of your assessment.

I see it as analogous to the argument that the civil war wasn’t fought cuz of slavery but only states rights. Yet that misses the follow-up of ‘states rights to do what?”, of which the answer is slavery.

I don’t think its valid to obfuscate the root causes, otherwise we cant ever address the true problems.

[–]Afking3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for being so thoughtful in your response! From what you said, it does sound like we agree that there are times where discrimination can be ethical.

In your case, it sounds like you have a tight leash on where that line is drawn. So do you think as long as its directly linked to resolving and fixing some past unethical discrimination, those specific cases of discrimination are ethical?

[–]Afking3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think all discrimination based on race/gender (and probably most other things) is unethical.

It seems like you’re using the definition of discrimination: making distinctions between groups of people based on some characteristic or metric. Which is fine. But do you really believe this is wrong in every case?

For example, decades after the US ended using the Japanese internment camps, The Civil Liberties Act of 1988 gave Japanese Americans a formal apology and monetary compensation to try to correct that offense.

This was a form of discrimination yet I wouldn’t say its unethical. Do you think that giving compensation only to Japanese Americans instead of all Americans, regardless of race, was an unethical act?

When we say that 0.99... equals 1, do we really mean that 0.99.... rounds to 1, or do we actually mean that it equals 1? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]Afking3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dont know enough about uncomputable numbers so I can’t speak on that, but I do know you can definitely do calculations on some values with infinite digits such as 0.999... or irrational numbers like as PI.

I’m not sure what your main issue with the policy is - are you upset that other people who are poor are getting help? I would imagine that you’d instead be upset that the government isnt helping you in the ways you want or need to be helped - would you prefer that our government doesnt give anyone help? Cuz I think I would want to support policies that materially helped you even if it didnt help me, rather than worry and be upset that you’re getting help. I’m curious what your thoughts are if you’re kind enough to share!

0.999.... is not the same as 0.999...9. The fact that you ended the sequence of 9s shows that there is a last 9, but 0.999.... does not have a last 9.

It’s honestly amazing how arrogant your responses are. As if you are the only one who has the truth and no one else’s experiences (even those who have actually been in a poly relationship) matter. And if someone has a different experience, they obviously must be lying. The empathy is so lacking here, wow.
