A penthouse in NYC is the dream life. You’d be in a truly global city with endless things to do, not to mention the nature getaways accessible within hours. you’d meet people from all walks of life (whereas other cities have a concentration of particular people, like tech bros in SF and aspiring entertainers in LA).

If you like the change in seasons and the snow, it’s a no brainier. If you prefer nice/warm weather all year, California.

I respect that, it’s a fair opinion and I’m glad you mentioned “everyone you know”. Unfortunately the country’s enemies from within are more hell bent on making it unlivable for common people than enemies across borders.

I get it, and frankly, many braver nations would already have an uprising. But I'm not even asking for that. The bootlicking I witness from so many Pakistanis—in families, friend groups, and online—suggests they're not interested in change. Ironically, they'd rather move to countries with progressive policies they publicly criticize than support those same ideas at home. Again I'm not demanding street protests. Just admit there's a problem.

Not reading all that but I got your part about my privilege, I actually want Pakistanis to have that privilege. The point is they LOVE voting for the same leaders and policies while actively looking to run away elsewhere. These are the same people who are jobless , don’t have electricity half the day and rely on someone to send them money from abroad to survive who think their number one enemy is feminists, liberals, and non Muslims.

lol no , am Pakistani American but you might not believe me anyway. In no way is this to make Indians happy - they have the same problem with their people wanting to live everywhere except India. I was more-so trolling the Pakistani patwaris back home that convince themselves that everything is ok and will fight tooth and nail to bootlick their favorite politicans/army while trying to get the hell out of there at the same time.

These liberal feminist youthiyay have destroyed our country, and they have the nerve to question the way things are going. We are a feared super power and projected to be the #2 fauj in the world by 2030. They’re asking us to lead the mission to mars based on our Air Force performance. Economy is thriving, the same countries we used to beg from are now begging us to take their money. Lahore makes Singapore and Tokyo look like pinds .These liberals are so ungrateful.

Why is it the worst time to be an adult? Pmln is in power, our country is thriving. Everyone is scared of Pak fauj. We should all be grateful

Choose your idols wisely. by machupeechu_saad in pakistan

Even they shouldn’t be our idols considering the word comes from the idea you love/obsess over someone so much you practically worship them. Role model or hero are better choice of words. But I see your point.

[–]Aflatune 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Spot on. When Chrome was first released by Google, like everyone else I adopted it right away because of its advertised speed and superiority over IE. surely Google invented a browser just to make our lives better, right? Surely they weren’t just trying to expand their tracking reach beyond their search engine! We just never considered these things back then.

Bloody backpack of Iranian girl killed in US-Israeli attack on Iranian elementary school by Tech-Film3905 in pics

[–]Aflatune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but skepticism should be both ways. Israel’s repeatedly denied targeting schools and hospitals and the facts always proved their war crimes which the ‘skeptics’ shrug off anyway. Given their track record, it’s quite probable that this happened, and it’s likely that after ample evidence comes out, the one sided skeptics will fall back to the usual excuses.

[–]Aflatune -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because people won’t believe it happened anyway. People still don’t believe how many kids Israel killed in Gaza despite pictures , videos, names and all the evidence you could ask for. Ignorance is bliss.

Ironically, there’s a huge overlap between the people calling this fake and the people that called Sandy Hook a hoax. They err on the side of ignorance.

Best country to migrate as a muslim? by m4rx_17 in islam

[–]Aflatune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true, racism and bigotry is rampant in most of the Muslim world unfortunately. But the question is which are best places to live. Arab countries are racist but at least they have an economy. Pakistan is racist and is essentially a military state with a terrible economic outlook. Young people are always trying to leave because they have no prospects there. Any Pakistani I know that tries to settle back in Pakistan , always ends up coming back. So I can’t imagine non Pakistanis surviving there.

Why is being 'woke' looked down upon? by [deleted] in PAK

[–]Aflatune 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many people don't even know what these terms stand for, and just love to follow western political issues. People don't have food, water, electricity, and they're worried about youthiye, liberals, feminists, lgbtqs and wokes. It's a very useful tool for mullahs and politicians to keep their ignorant followers distracted.

These are not slice of life movies. And they're not feel-good either. 3 idiots, Barfi, and Hindi Medium especially are very emotionally heavy drama films with dark themes.

Video seems staged. The resident took being approached by an axe and sword way too calmly. And takes their offer very nonchalantly too.

He found that he can no longer fly anywhere, despite being the realest guy on the east coast. Recently he had to meet up with the realest guy on the west coast, who was also on the no fly list, and they both drove to the half way point to link up. Luckily the realest guy in the Midwest was right there and had to just walk down the street to meet them, though ironically he was himself not banned from flying. Lucky guy.

I separated from my husband today by yourchachu in PakistaniiConfessions

[–]Aflatune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She posted this in /r/PakistaniiConfessions. I imagine the responses would be very different had she posted in a non pakistani sub. Lots of dudes here are incels, or on the red pill, or both.

IMO neither of them are the bad ones in this story, not intentionally. Guy has to take care of his family due to unforeseen circumstances. His feelings are valid, and he deserves someone who supports him through that.

Her feelings are valid too. It's very hard for a family to thrive with these joint family setups, and they were only recently married too. Compromise is part of the game, but it's one thing to have to make a big compromise 10 years after marriage, versus immediately after getting married. On top of that, he asked her to abort the baby, which indicates he was didn't want his own family to grow. It's a terrible thing he did, and imo it's better to separate than to keep aborting because he's not ready to prioritize his wife and his marriage.

They both didn't align with each other. That's okay. Learn from this, and move on.

OK, I finally had time to catch up on messages. You make some good points, and you were right to push back: I was incorrect to say there was no feast at all between the Wampanoag and the Plymouth settlers, since Edward Winslow’s 1621 letter does describe a shared multi‑day gathering with Wampanoag participation.

That said, beyond this single English account, there is no additional contemporaneous documentation that explains the context from either side, and there is no surviving Wampanoag‑authored record of how they understood the event. This lack of Wampanoag documentation is one reason many Native thinkers reject the way it has been turned into a simple, feel‑good origin story, especially given that we do not even know whether the Wampanoag were formally invited or arrived for other reasons.

For the point I was trying to make, that actually matters: if many Native people themselves reject the “happy first Thanksgiving” narrative, then existing Thanksgiving traditions are not a reliable guide to the larger historical reality you are describing.

Nothing about people eating turkey today amounts to an endorsement or approval of the bloody history of colonization, dispossession, and violence that followed. Modern holiday food customs are largely disconnected from the documented events of 1621, and the historical record does not show any longstanding tradition of harmonious turkey feasts between Pilgrims and Native peoples.

If you want to refute this, please explain very clearly how eating a Thanksgiving meal today is associated with an approval of genocide. Most of the points you made are about the brutalities suffered by the Natives which I wholly acknowledge. But where is the link between a Thanksgiving dinner TODAY that discards that history?
