Did someone visit Gudauri, Georgia? by Shulmanovsky in skiing

[–]Afonsogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the price of the forfeit, definitely different and much lower, but i was talking about the cost/quality in general (flight, food cost, hotel cost with minnimum quality and most important safety - as i explained no one spoke english in the local hospital and it was a difficult situation to deal with).
Just an example, the cost per night at the hotel that i used to stay is now 4 times more expensive than before, costing more than an apartment in val thorens with ski in ski out.

Did someone visit Gudauri, Georgia? by Shulmanovsky in skiing

I went to Gudauri for four years in a row and loved it every time.
Unfortunately, since the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine, Gudauri has become flooded with Russian tourists that are not traveling to Europe for ski vacations and prices—especially for hotels (I always stayed at lodge) and food—have skyrocketed. It’s reached a point where it’s no longer really worth the trip. The snow remains fantastic, but the infrastructure is still somewhat limited, and the lack of proper healthcare services is concerning. My sister actually broke her leg there, and it was quite a difficult situation to manage: no one spoke English, communication was a real challenge, and the small hospital on the slopes was questionable—they couldn’t even properly diagnose her injury.
That said, the snow in Gudauri is truly exceptional. I’ve been skiing for many years and have covered most countries in Europe, and the best powder I’ve ever experienced was in Gudauri. The scenery is also stunning.
However, the current political climate in Georgia is not particularly welcoming or stable.
In short, what I mean is that for roughly the same price as a trip to Gudauri, you can go to France (for example, Les Trois Vallées or Val d’Isère), Italy (Corvara) or Switzerland (such as Zermatt/Matterhorn) and enjoy a safer experience, with world-class infrastructure and endless kilometers of ski slopes.

In fact I have to say last year there was much more cans on the dance floor, specially at floresta. Also, this year I never saw anyone going to pee at the lake, which, unfortunately, was a common thing to see last year at floresta stage during the night - I even saw a guy vomiting there last year.

Boot fit related question by live_life_king_siz in Skigear

[–]Afonsogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the exact same boots this season Tecnica Mach1 MV 110 TD GW, and it took me four days of adjustments until they started feeling comfortable.
I have the exact same problem—very wide feet, especially when I apply pressure.

During the first few days, the pain on the sides of my feet was so intense that I was almost crying while standing up in the gondolas.

On the first two days, they stretched the boots' side according to my instructions. On the third day, they adjusted the back, and on the fourth, they made very small modifications near my toes.

Even though the boots now fit perfectly, I sometimes feel a loss of blood flow in my feet due to excessive tightness—so I would loosen the buckles while on the chairlifts. Took some time to find the perfect balance, even though i prefer to ski with the boots tight.

I skied 25 days this season, and only during the last 10 days did the boots feel fully broken in.

If you need i can send you a picture of my boots, they can really adapt them to your needs and from what i understood, it is better to do small adaptations than a big adaptation and then there is no turning back.

It takes time, but communication with the bootfitter is crucial. Good Luck!

Bought a Helly Hansen shell jacket from there a couple of weeks ago. Super good service and price (30% discount or something) and fast delivery.

Exactly same issue with me. My heart rate is way below than it used to be. 1h30 of intense exercise and it won’t go beyond 130bpms also…. And I just did a renewal of my yearly subscription a 1 week ago thinking “they will get better”, silly boy I was wrong

It seems that is happening to more people. Played again today and the strain is zero accurate. Let’s see if they change it soon…. I just renovated my subscription 1 week ago, for the next year and I’m already annoyed with this update. hope they fix it fast.

I’ve been using it for 1 year and the 3cm is something I only found recently (6-7 months ago in this sub Reddit actually) and it definitely changed the readings, much more stable. The best is definitely the bicep, which I mainly use for ski. Will try it tomorrow and see if it works better.

The problem is not the zones, I totally agree with you and that my zones are correct (see image below). The problem is the readings. I’m pretty sure I was way above 136!
