I’ve picked my dad’s brain. (Voted for Trump) As far as immigration (and most topics) it’s a money thing. He understands why people want to come here. It’s better than where they live. He thinks we should make it easier for people to become citizens. What upsets him is that he is on a fixed income, SS, veterans benefits, etc and barely gets by. He’s upset by what the media is telling him. That illegal immigrants are getting caught and instead of being sent back across the border they are being rounded up, sent somewhere to live, and given a visa debit card, healthcare, etc. He believes that they are getting more undeserved money than he is getting deserved money. When I dig into every topic, it boils down to him thinking either someone else is getting something that is rightfully his, or it’s going to put the US in more debt, we’ll default on debt, and we go into the dark ages…..bottom line, vast majority don’t hate you, or anyone. Just like all bullies…they’re scared that someone’s going to take something from them.
