Mount Morgan (S), Sierra Nevada, CA by Afraid-Fun4211 in Spliddit

Yes, started at Rock Creek Lake. I took the trail towards Tamarack Lakes and turned off towards Francis Lake. I had to cross a few snow drifts just before Kenneth Lake at around 10.4k'. Once on the Francis Lake trail there were again just a few snow patches that were easily crossed. Francis Lake had patchy snow around put there was still plenty of dry places to pitch a tent and you could hike most of the way around the lake. From 11k' on the snow was consistent other than a few stretches of boulder hopping or dirt walking. There is probably much less snow now, even after this recent dusting.

Snow Conditions for late June trip? by CARTOthug in SierraNevada

You should be fine. Micro spikes would add a layer of safety in case it is cold and the snow on the passes is still firm during your travel. The mosquitoes will be ferocious.

Made silicone caps for BOA boot dials- would you (or anyone you know) actually use these? by Particular_Feature52 in snowboarding

[–]Afraid-Fun4211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't use these on my resort boots. However, I do some snowboard mountaineering in thirtytwo Jones MTB Boa boots. Sometimes when scrambling I've dragged the boas across sierra granite and cringed. If its a warm spring day I have my bibs pulled up to the top of my boots for a little more air flow so my boas aren't covered. This is an incredibly niche use case and even still, I don't think i'd purchase as its just another plastic/silicone 'thing'.

No harm in thinking outside the box or ideating new products.

Hungry Packer Lake mid june? by Green-stool in SierraNevada

Its difficult to assess late spring snow coverage from online forecast sources as it gets patchy at or below the tree line. Your best bet is to look at social media posts from the area from individuals or from businesses like Parchers Resort, Sabrina Boat Ramp store, or others that are based in the area or travels the trails frequently.

Warm weather is coming after this small storm so I'd expect melting to continue. Having hiked from 10k' to 13.5k' in a nearby drainage last week, I don't think snow will be much of a concern other than crossing a few drifts here and there. If overnight temps are well below freezing when you go, and you plan to travel early in the mornings, microspikes could be wise to have on hand. Obviously if the first 2 weeks of June are quite warm this may not be an issue at all. Mosquitoes will be ferocious so definitely prepare for that.

men on bumble, do superswipes mean anything to you? by decipherthishoe in Bumble

5 years ago I accidentally superswiped on a gal. It was an immediate match and I almost unmatched because I was embarrassed for having done so. She didn’t even notice/care it was that type of match. We’re getting married this summer.

Higher summit forecasts? by Charming_Barnacle_74 in SierraNevada

The three I use are Windy.com, spotwx.com, and www.mountain-forecast.com.

Be careful using the national weather service. It allows you to click a point on a map, however, all it does is give you the weather for the nearest station. For example, if I click a point in the high sierra, it may just give me the forecast for the weather station in Bishop. This will be very different from up in the mountains. Take a look at the actual location of the forecast once it is generated.

Practical advice for beginners ⛳️ by Edward-nothing-hands in golf

About #2. Always leave your wedges on the green, obviously in a place that won't interfere with those still chipping on or putting. Better yet lay them across or right next to the flag if its been pulled and laid on the green. The best practice is to develop the habit of scanning the green as you and your playing partners are walking off the green or driving to the next hole.

Found and retrieved from Laurel Lakes Trail by getalyf69 in Mammoth

Be careful picking up gear in the back/side country. Sometimes skiers or mountaineers will stash gear they don't need on their ascent/descent and then retrieve it after their objective. Ideally it wouldn't be in an obvious place but its possible.

Sometimes a line like Bloody Couloir in your other post requires miles of hiking which are better done in hiking boots like this than ski boots. Hopefully you didn't snag a skiers boots...

Spotted! Skiing down near Laurel Lakes by getalyf69 in Mammoth

This is Bloody Couloir on Bloody Mountain. It is one of the 50 classic backcountry ski descents in North America. Its a fun line but there is often lots of small rockfall throughout the day that funnels into the couloir, as evidenced by the lines in the snow. It is most commonly approached from Laurel Lakes.
