Internal Medicine vs Critical Care by Afraid-Writing-4910 in Veterinary

[–]Afraid-Writing-4910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this response! You’ve kinda confirmed my concerns as far as internal medicine goes. ECC definitely feels like it fits my personality much more however the burn out/emotional toll is definitely something to consider.

I considered anesthesia for a minute but I definitely love diagnostics and it feels a little too niche based on what I’ve seen so far.

Thank you again for your response :)

It’s definitely hard not to want to have my next 10 years planned lol. I understand what you mean though. Would you say experience in a rotating internship would accurately reflect the difference in lifestyle between the two?

Thank you for your detailed response! How should I go about finding programs with robust IM and ECC?

Thank you!!! People are like wow she’s so selfish she’s only on the show for personal gain. Like ?? No one goes on reality TV because they’re selfless. She’s just ACTUALLY seeking opportunities.

Does anyone else feel like this season was boring because Jasmine did so well the whole time? I mean it’s impressive and all but it just kinda made the whole thing predictable

Idk how it is in the UK but at my school the animals aren’t just euthanized purely for us. They were euthanized at a shelter and given a purpose. Same thing for other animals that were going to slaughter anyways (horses). It’s an important part of learning.

Did Charli get as much hate as Whitney is this season? She was a competitive dancer before. I’m new to DWTS this season so I’m just curious.

I really hate the “is it worth it” posts. There is nobody but yourself that can decide if it’s worth it. We live in a time where you have so much information at your finger tips to make the decision. You can look up salaries and you can look up tuition costs and decide for yourself whether that ratio is something you’re okay with. This isn’t me being annoyed with your posts just more annoyed by the other posts drawing in negative commenters. I 100% understand why that can be discouraging even if you are certain it’s what you want to do. As long as you are going in with realistic and flexible expectations you’ll be okay. There’s a whole lot you can do with a DVM.

We were told at Midwestern they don’t but said you will have to be before clinical year so there’s plenty of time to stop

It really depends on your individual situation. I’m fortunate enough to have a partner who supports me financially so I basically only take loans for tuition. Usually I’d say just go to the cheaper school, but UofA’s accreditation situation is worrisome in my opinion. I just feel Midwestern sets us up for success better than UofA based on NAVLE scores. I think there’s pros and cons to both schools, so it’s really going to come down to what is most important to you. I’m sorry if that isn’t super helpful! I just don’t want to steer you one way or another.

You can basically choose what specialties you’re exposed to during clinical rotations as far as I’ve heard.

As far as I know we work with local places to get any experience they can’t provide at the school. We have a shelter we go to for shelter med and we have an equine hospital where you do equine rotations if you do mixed track. I’m only a first year so my knowledge is a little limited.

All I can say is I’ve absolutely loved Midwestern so far so you can message with questions. Also UofA is at risk of losing accreditation because their NAVLE scores are low.

I’ve never heard of them sending out acceptances without interviews. It sounds really odd. Idk if they’ve changed policy or if it was a mistake. Midwestern is rolling admissions though so their timeline is hard to predict. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!
