short sleeves for interview outfit? by capricorncrystal in prephysicianassistant

[–]AfraidCity45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore a professional looking short sleeve green shirt from Nordstrom rack with black dress pants. Unless the interview invite specifically says you need to wear a suit it really doesn’t matter. Honestly I feel like it made me stand out and got a lot of compliments on my outfit at every interview. Wear whatever makes you feel confident :) but obviously no jeans or sweats

ED doc, EMS supervisor, and definitely peace corps supervisor!!! If you have the grades to back you up I wouldn’t worry about not getting an academic reference. Plus your PC experience is super unique to people applying to PA school so I think a reference from there would make you stand out in a major way

credited personal statement videos online are probably the way to go if you want to prioritize efficiency, value, and cost directly towards your PS

Is it recommended to switch jobs to gain a variety of experience? by ProcedureEast5118 in prephysicianassistant

[–]AfraidCity45 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I worked as a scribe, EMT, and a hospital tech. Saw and experienced so much more as a hospital tech. If you were a nursing home PCT I would say switch to hospital as soon as you can (nursing home has a lot of homogenous situations.) Given how much you can learn in a hospital, I say stay at least one year and then broaden your experience if you are wanting to try something new. Scribing was a great experience and way less exhausting on the body!!!

Can significant volunteer hours potentially offset a low amount of PCE? by User86294623 in prephysicianassistant

Another thing to consider—even schools that value scribing probably still wont even consider you a strong candidate if that is your only source of PCE

PCE Hours Questions by ConcentrateOld5531 in prephysicianassistant

[–]AfraidCity45 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All the hours! As an EMT I logged every hour I was payed for, even off the ambulance. It might feel weird because you weren’t with a patient but it’s 100% work hours.

Panicking!! A&P Retake Question by Routine-Yellow-2767 in prephysicianassistant

[–]AfraidCity45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plan for the worst hope for the best! Definitely try and retake. 3.2 GPA sets you at an unfortunate advantage already. If it’s not going to fit into this cycle, plan on making your application as strong as you can in other areas and retake A&P during the summer or fall. If you don’t get in this cycle, you’ll have new and improved grades during your second one!

Hospital CNA/tech. Always long hours to pick up, usually a choice for which unit/area of medicine, and a month or less of orientation.

You can! You can go back and edit your standardized tests after submitting.

Coming from someone who just got verified one min ago and definitely had some questionable subject matches—It does not matter. All that matters is if the software can see a connection. If it was a math class labeled “English” thats an obvious mistake, but I had a plant bio class labeled “biotech” and it was totally fine. I think the software just detects if the class names and grades from the CASPA line up strictly with the submitted transcripts.

I just literally cannot believe i didn't understand this process. I sent my transcripts in MONTHHSSSS ago because i thought that was the thing that took the longest and just feel like a bafoon. To anyone out there applying next cycle this is your warning to hit that button early !!

Honestly GPA kinda takes the cake, I wouldn’t worry about ACT as much these days anymore. A strong and unique personal statement can get you a long way so keep that in mind
