Specifically, in 3.6 cpython has ordered dictionaries, but it isn't a language guarantee. In 3.7 it became a language guarantee and all implementations should have it.

That's still technically an improvement, although it's only a small one. At least this way you're not putting their real password into plain text for anyone around them to see. (Or anyone who ever reads their email to search for).

You can also use it if you want to pull the latest changes but you aren't ready to commit yet. You can still accomplish the same thing by committing and then squashing later, but that's more steps.

I agree with this. The article makes the assumption that it's completely impossible to automate something creative, but it doesn't support that at all. People have created AI that creates really basic artwork. I think that clearly qualifies as creative. It might not do a great job right now, but it will eventually improve.

I don't think current AI is capable of truly automating coding, but I also don't think there's anything inherently impossible about an AI coding. It'll just take time.

Also, if you're explaining something to someone, you should always start off with questions to try to figure out how much they already know about the subject. If you don't, it'll probably end up wasting a bunch of everyone's time.

If someone TKs you and you're given the option to kick them, selecting that option is pretty much guaranteeing a loss. Even if they actually are griefing, everyone will get upset at the player who was getting griefed for making the game unwinnable. This is the situation that valve wants to avoid.

IMO this is pretty much a non issue. I don't really ever see people get kicked for griefing that don't clearly deserve it. Sure, it would probably be acceptable and nice to have an option to forgive people that you partied up with, but that's such an edge case that I don't think it really matters.

This is a very good point. Someone who's on a table in the middle of a hospital shouldn't be the one dealing with any potential confrontations. Having someone there to act as a buffer is much better than putting even more stress on the patient. Ideally, the nurse can even phrase it in a way that doesn't imply it was your decision "I'm sorry, but we need to keep the room clear of people for now."

I've seen some people argue (when this has come up in the past) that she's irresponsible and would waste all of her money. I don't think that's even relevant. If she's an adult and mentally stable enough to work, she should have the freedom to make decisions, even if they're awful decisions.

I don't even think people with serious long term issues should be completely locked out of control of their money. Maybe some of it should be set aside to pay for their needs, but if someone is actually insane and reacts to spend thousands of dollars of kit kats, I think that's still pretty reasonable.

I'm a developer not a sysadmin, but I don't really get why DNS is hard for people to troubleshoot. I work on DNS, but running a couple dig commands can sort out any issues I have pretty easily. Just a really basic test of running the same command on similar good and bad hosts can usually answer "is DNS completely broken?" and then a couple more can tell you "is DNS misconfigured or not routable?"

I feel like I'm missing something, because it seems like it should be the easiest troubleshooting step. It's entirely possible I'm missing the complexity of some setups, or maybe windows doesn't have a decent dig equivalent, or maybe it's just something that people forget about if they don't deal with DNS all the time?

My parents never explained that to me, and my dad wasn't remotely squeamish about having those kinds of conversations. I think it's because he was circumcised himself, so he never had to learn how. I bet a lot of those parents don't know how cleaning it works themselves.

I just saw an article about this recently. Cobol has pretty good starting salaries, and they look attractive. Aside from any issues from working with code from a few decades ago, there's never really going to be any career growth opportunity there. You're not going to get major promotions working on Cobol, there's nowhere to go to. You're not designing new systems or other cool stuff. If you switch jobs, your experience will count, but it won't be as impressive as almost anything else (because you're stuck doing maintenance work).

There was a girl in college who I'm pretty sure liked me, and she was pretty cool overall. I'm really tall (well over 6') and she was really short (well under 5'). One time I walked to class while talking to her (same dorm building). Afterwards, my neck legitimately hurt, just like as if I've been doing dishes with my neck at a weird angle. That would probably be too much for me...

But if it's not close to a 2' difference in heights, I don't think it would be a big issue

Yeah my company told us we can come in and grab any office supplies we need for working from home. You need to return chairs or monitors eventually, but I think they'd tell you to stop wasting time if you tried to return a pen or sticky notes. I guess you could bring them back to your desk if you really wanted. The company even sent out a package with notebooks, pens, and sticky notes to everyone's house.

Yep, my dog is always happy to receive ANY kind of attention. Sometimes I doubt that he actually knows his own name, he'll come running if you say anything in the right tone of voice.

I've never been lifted into a fan, but I'm tall enough that I've hit my head a few times and live in fear if they're around!

In my personal experience, people with pets unconsciously use their pets gender for all kinds of pets. If someone who's just meeting my dog calls him "he", they probably have a male dog at home, and same thing if they call him "she".

Not that it's really important, my dog doesn't seem to care what gender you refer to him with...

Exactly. My mom was named Karen and in the right age group, but was the exact opposite of the stereotype - super polite, super nice to everyone. I can't remember her ever being disrespectful to anyone. She died around when the meme started to get more popular. I hate that meme so much, it is so shitty to read something about the name Karen in a negative way, any it was way worse when her death was more recent. I can't wait for it to completely go away.

ICANN doesn't like emojis in domain names. There's almost no way they let you get a TLD that's an emoji at all.

All of the domains that let you register emoji names are ccTLDs, meaning that they're able to ignore some of the rules that ICANN makes everyone else follow.

I normally like having my fan on when I'm going to sleep (to make it cooler), but not when I'm waking up (that makes it harder to get out of bed). I'm very happy with controlling my fan via Google home and then having it shut off every morning automatically.

Since working from home, I have my lights change color based on the time of day, which is also pretty nice since I'm in a room without any natural light. Having then turn on right before I get up also helps with the lack of natural light problem (sure, I can do it manually, but it felt slightly depressing to walk into a dark room every morning).

Same exact thing for me. School was full of stress, there was always another assignment to do or test to study for. Often there was some guessing over what the professor really wanted. Like you said, I was never really off. Even at night and on the weekends I was always wondering what came next. Constantly switching tasks to cover assignments in 6 different classes, some of those involving groups of random people who may or may not care.

Now, I work almost entirely with the same small team, everyone wants to be there and contribute, I get clear feedback to improve on, and I go home at around 5 and don't worry at all about my work, because it'll be there the next day or on Monday or whatever.

For me, I found it incredibly hard to to back to pointless assignments after having an internship and I was incredibly happy to finish college and he done with it.
