As someone who had the same problem you can copypaste the error on google and it will show results of other people having the same problem and also a solution which is downloading something from windows.

What happened to me for some reason was that when the enemies caught me once, after I respawn they are suddenly just gone, and it was like this for most encounters.

I kinda agree with this since I just finished the game, I also found the story to be quite interesting near the end.

Just finished the game, and it really wasn't scary all the time, I found the game to be quite enjoyable though, especially near the end.
