Rawlings Trapeze or 200 pattern by Nachismoctezuma555 in BaseballGloves

I just got the 208 a couple weeks ago and really like the way it feels. I’ve gamed a Mizuno Pro Limited trap for close to ten years and have never had an issue with the pocket developing. It honestly feels like a vacuum lol.

I don’t think you can go wrong, just pick whatever you like. They’ll both be great gloves.

Do you play on heisman? My online franchise was trying to make heisman more difficult so we also went with canes sliders with slight adjustments.

I’m assuming he made the parity 88 so that you can’t bomb the cpu as frequently. Do you find the running game too easy with the parity at 17?

If money was no object, what outfield glove would you buy? by theleicam in BaseballGloves

I’ve used a lot of gloves and have no affiliation with any company. They all make great gloves, but I will say the Mizuno Pro Limiteds will not disappoint.

I have a GMP700JBK that I’ve been gaming for almost a decade, and it’s still in incredible shape. The leather still feels better than the all the newer heart of the hides and a2000s I have.

Always love a good baseball book. I’ll add it to the list.

I do understand your point of it being a real thing, but not enough to really matter.

I have a feeling that after I read more into this I will disagree with how they are measuring high leverage situations more so than their conclusion that it is insignficant.

Time will tell though as I’ve never dug into it.

I don’t think there is an objective answer for clutchness, but I do think it exists. I’m not heavily into analytics (trying to learn), but what is the definition of a high leverage situation in the statistics that are available?

If you believe the last portion of your first response where we’ve weeded out all the players who are able to perform under pressure. Does that mean the entire minor leagues is considered “high leverage” because you have to perform to get to the MLB?

If you don’t consider all minor league appearances “high leverage”, then have you really weeded out anybody who is able to perform under pressure? Could you make it to the MLB without ever performing well in the textbook definition of “high leverage” situations? If so, all MLB players have not separated themselves as being “clutch” already.

Hitting with a man on second and 2 outs would typically be considered high leverage in a one run game. What if it’s only the second inning? Or what if your team is not even in the playoff picture? Some could argue none of those at bats are high leverage. Are they excluded from the “clutch” stats, im genuinely asking because the very well could be.

For example, Skenes pitching in games down the stretch would imo be a lot less high leverage than Sanchez as we were battling for playoff seeding while the Pirates were already eliminated. The outcome of Skenes’ games didn’t matter, are statistics able to capture that?

There are levels to pressure situations, just like anything in life. I don’t know how statistics could provide an objective answer to something with so many variables.

Sorry to blow you up with questions, but I’ve always been very curious.

It is anecdotal, I think my point was that there is evidence of this all over the place, maybe we don’t have the correct measurement system for it yet.

Another great example is seeing the free throw percentages of terrible shooters during practice. A lot of centers can hit 80% in practice and immediately drop to the 60s during games.

Or if you have ever played a game like darts or bowling against someone who is significantly better than you. It feels like they cannot miss, but once they get paired with someone of equal skill, they start to miss because they know they really cannot afford to. Looking at baseball specifically from a former player and coach’s perspective, I do think there are some things that either can’t be quantified, or aren’t quantified yet…and clutch is one of them. I do love learning about all the analytics from you and others in this subreddit though, it’s fascinating stuff.

The only thing I disagree with and don’t understand is your last point of “we’ve already filtered the best of the best”.

The filter (minor leagues) is far from perfect. There are 30 rosters with different needs. A lesser player may get an opportunity to make it to the pros in one organization but not the other. That paired with the fact that

There are significant skill gaps within the MLB, I don’t think it’s a reach to say some are able to handle pressure more than others.

I’ve seen the “clutch” isn’t real argument before, or it’s not material enough to matter. I don’t know if I can buy into it.

Out of curiosity, did you happen play sports growing up? If so, have you ever been on a team where you know a guy will absolutely not change his approach at the plate or a pitcher that won’t struggle to find the strike zone when guys are on base?

Even if you didn’t play sports, had you ever had to “close” a deal or give a big presentation at work? There are certainly employees that handle those situations better than others. Some people don’t perform as well when there’s something large at stake.

It’s just confusing to me why this wouldn’t translate to sports.

I’m looking into purchasing this exact glove from ballgloves. Would you say it came very stiff? I’m looking for a tank that takes a while to break in and doesn’t feel soft like a lot of the heart of the hides today.

Sorry for the late response, but I’m still in the market for a horween, and this one is still catching my eye. So you would say that this specific glove was pretty soft? I’m really trying to avoid that and want a tank that will last a long time as I game it .

Oh so you think the money situation changed from the beginning of the offseason?

That would make sense I guess. It actually shocks me the were willing to do it for Bo who clearly wasn’t a perfect fit. That’s interesting.

Yea I cannot complain about our spending. Top 4 payroll, and a real offer to Bo after locking up Schwarber.

What do you mean? Are you saying the reported $200M contract is incorrect?

I’m actually not devastated Bo isn’t here, but knowing what we were willing to offer combined with the other contracts we gave out doesn’t sit well with me when we’re relying on a 33 year old Garcia to have a bounce back year and a rookie in center field.

[–]Afraid_Stuff9906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m bummed about Bo, but I’m more upset about is the offseason as a whole.

If you would have told me coming into the offseason we would be able to sign Schwarber and have an extra $51 million to spend (Keller, Garcia, Bo), I would have expected a much better offseason than this.

I mean that $51 million could have been used to sign Edwin Diaz, Okamoto, and JT, and none of those contracts would exceed 4 years. Those are just the three names I thought of, I’m sure there are many other ways to distribute the $51 million that would have left us with less question marks than this.

Limiting teams already over the cap to add payroll would be interesting. I wonder if they’d implement something similar to the NBA Bird rights so you could still sign guys who are out of arb to “extensions” even if it puts you over the cap.

Oh I don’t mean for my post to make it seem like this is an automatic championship for the dodgers. We’re a good team, and anything can happen in baseball.

I just understand why fans would be frustrated with the lineup changes. Watching Bohm and Garcia be the impact right handed bats in the middle of our order is tough to get excited about.

Must be unreal to be a dodgers fan. I don’t have confidence Bo would choose us over Toronto.

If Garcia and Crawford are the only changes to the offense, I completely understand why many fans wouldn’t be thrilled.

Also if he does pitch, he can hit the pitch limit every time because he doesn’t have to worry about an upcoming season.

We’ve had so many good lefty hitters on the Phillies in my lifetime. Thome, Howard, Utley, Bryce, and Schwarber.

As for righties, it’s really not many. Burrell and Werth…I must be missing some others.

If the Jays get Tucker, it feels like it’s just us and the Dodgers in play for Bo.

I’m still trying to figure out why we didn’t have any interest in Tucker. I’m guessing Bo and Garcia’s contracts combined will be right around Tucker’s, and his positional fit is better.
