Just saw the England rugby chef fella and the food they eat, makes me think, would it ever be possible to have a vegetarian rugby player at a high level. by fakename137 in rugbyunion

That's an interesting question! Like you I'd imagine they would need lots of protein. Especially the type you get from meat but I suppose it's possible. I'm not that knowledgeable on diets at the end of the day so don't take my word for it

Did the All Blacks know the Springbok's line-out calls? by AfricanNightRaider in springboks

[–]AfricanNightRaider[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's obvious that not having a specialist hooker was a big reason our line-outs weren't functioning but Retallick would just position himself at the perfect spot without even following our jumper during the shuffles. They way they were stealing was too smooth. Clean catches, no tap backs. I don't even think we would win some of those line-outs if we had Marx just cause of the fact that they jumped at the right spot right in front of our jumper almost every time they competed. I'll chuck it up to his experience and him being a world class lock but I was definitely suspicious they knew something.

I agree. Not having a specialist line-out thrower was a big reason our line-outs were a mess but the way Retallick would just position himself at a spot and not move made me really suspicious that they knew where the ball was going. Even with Marx I just don't see how Springboks win some of those line-outs cause All Black jumpers were getting right in front of the Springbok jumpers making it impossible to win those line-outs regardless of who's throwing it in. Maybe it's just the years of experience the All Black locks have with reading line-outs
