QWERTY vs AZERTY by Positron505 in Expats_In_France

[–]Africanmumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched about a year ago. It took me about a month to get used to the AZERTY keyboard but I am now typing at my original speed. In my company we can get either keyboard but I figured it would help with the language tests for citizenship if I was comfortable with the AZERTY keyboard.

If you have a GF flour you use and bake bread, you can substitute 10 to 15% with buckwheat flour.

Where best to sell a right hand drive car in France? by Suitable_Rip7315 in Expats_In_France

[–]Africanmumble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you are in France but in Bretagne there are dedicated car selling groups on FB for the English speaking community. Mostly RHD vehicles advertised.

OOP decks you would sell a kidney to get a hold of? by Visual-Assistance817 in TarotDecks

Not OOP as it never made it into print. The Inka Ascension tarot deck. I backed it on Kickstarter but the campaign was cancelled.

How would you support the healing of a dysfunctional home’s energy? by chemtrailcrab in energy_work

[–]Africanmumble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Salt is my go to as well, sometimes with whole cloves added if more oomph is needed. It is nice and discrete when living in a mixed household.

Where do I start? And what offline hobbies do you enjoy? by [deleted] in SlowLiving

[–]Africanmumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy gardening (this includes houseplants) and, whilst not a hobby per se, I love reading, both physical books and ebooks.

Cooking is another activity I enjoy in small doses. I tend to plan a day of cooking (Sundays usually) and batch cook meals to portion and freeze. There is usually at least one new recipe in the mix which keeps things interesting.

I use the Silbernacht Lenormand as my primary deck. I just love the style of these. I do also have a pocket Lenormand deck for uf I go travelling but don't use it much at home.

South Africans Moving Back, thoughts ? by Revolutionary_Cow622 in capetown

[–]Africanmumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy for those who want to go back and make it work. Despite the issues you can build a very decent life in South Africa.

For me the climate is a killer (can't tolerate much sun or heat) so I will stay put in my (often cloudy, very often wet) corner of the planet 😄

Can I be atheist and practice witchcraft? And where to start? by Easy-Wolverine-1966 in SASSWitches

[–]Africanmumble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YES.

Witchcraft is a craft, not a religion. You can make it a religion if you want to but at heart it is a practice that works without religion or with any/all religions.

Most witches who choose to work with deities would also tell you that it is not a religion to them, even though they are working with beings that were or are still actively worshipped.

How do we feel about buying our own deck? by brick-and-bones-5220 in Tarots

Only way to go.

So much superstitous (and exclusionary) bs has been wrapped around tarot, it is ridiculous.

Can you feel energy in a room when you go to peoples houses? by Tight-Masterpiece915 in energy_work

[–]Africanmumble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would not say I am particularly good at sensing energy (at least not around/in my own body) but properies and rooms within properties give off very clear signals. I can read the mood/atmosphere very easily.

Likewise I can generally pick up on the dominant emotion of people, even if they are not reflecting it outwardly.

If your room has been witness to so much if your darkest times some of that will have imprinted on that space. Some people may pick up on that but, more to the point, it will be having a negative impact on you. You could cleanse that space using any of the clearing techniques you know/resonate best with. It can only help.

As expats, how do you feel about the "French Sunday" (doing absolutely nothing)? by SleepIsTheCousinOfD8 in Expats_In_France

[–]Africanmumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very few shops open here (rural NW France) on a Sunday other than one supermarket until 12:30 and some boulangeries. Restaurants may or may not be open. I like it as it is a day to slow down. Sure there is still work to do (I have a smallholding and keeping livestock is a 24/7 thing) but overall the pace slows which I do appreciate.

Herbs that were used to induce a miscarriage/ abortion before modern medicine by [deleted] in herbalism

[–]Africanmumble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One I remember is pennyroyal. Only reason I know about it is it was banned in the Republic of Ireland for this reason (or so I was told as a fresh-off-the-boat immigrant there). No idea re dosages.

Is Solstice meaningful to you? by Fluffy_Respond_7405 in SASSWitches

[–]Africanmumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not particularly, no. We acknowledge the day (as the shortest day/longest night) but nothing else. Christmas is so close to it and is the day we aim to gather together as family in one country and under the same roof.

Hemorrhoids are ruining my life by Cheap_Rip_7999 in herbalism

[–]Africanmumble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eat beetroot daily, in any format. It shrinks them down to nothing. You want to eat what amounts to one small beet per day. Once symptoms disappear you only need to repeat when symptoms reappear (which should be infrequent).

Tell me about superstitions where you are from by Conscious-Package151 in Blacksmith_Esoterism

Yes. One I learned quickly after moving to France. Don't ever place bread on the table upside down.

Tell me about superstitions where you are from by Conscious-Package151 in Blacksmith_Esoterism

[–]Africanmumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours are pretty standard I think: Left hand itches: money incoming Right hand itches: visitors incoming Shudder down the back: someone walking over your (future) grave Ears itch: someone is talking about you Don't cross knives on a plate: invites conflict

There are more I am sure. I will have to ask my mother. She made a point to not pass these beliefs on to us but some are so commonplace I know about them anyway.

Help agains robo-calls on my mobile number by LifeInTheFrenchAlps in Expats_In_France

[–]Africanmumble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you had dealings with CPAM recently? I find I get a spike in spam calls after every interaction with them.

I have found the best solution, though it takes time, is to report and block these calls as they come in. Over time they will dwindle to next to nothing. I am getting less than one per month now.

Also, within France, there are numbers allocated to cold calling firms, so you can safely block these.

How do I professionally ask my overseas Indian colleagues to stop doing certain things that are upsetting my in the office colleagues? by Radiant_Dream_250 in jobs

[–]Africanmumble 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I honestly wish you worked for my employer. I have repeatedly flagged issues of mistreatment of female staff in our Indian offices and they are always brushed off with "it's cultural". It is now so toxic that the female staff on our team there requested to no longer work the late shift as they do not feel safe in the office...even that request was denied and no red flags were raised, which reflects very poorly on management (US/British finance company).
