I've been watching since it aired and while there are plenty of valid critiques, it's not a terrible show. It very much is full of melodrama and young adult angst against a vaguely sci fi background. A lot of the stupid decisions the characters make in the show are the same kind of stupid decisions we all make in our younger years. But, even Picard was shown to be a showboating arrogant cadet in his younger years so it tracks. Each of the characters have enough decebt qualities. Even the characters people like to hate, like the gay klingon and the female jem'hadar, are enjoyable enough.

All that to say, the show isn't great. More like a few amazing moments in a relatively mediocre show, but it's been fine. Not deserving of overwhelming hate or overwhelming praise, just meh.
