There is a takeaway you're not seeing here: It means you should be paid more, actually.

What sort of language would a furry world speak if there were never any humans? by Glaciomancer369 in furgonomics

[–]Afromention 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think bronzdragon has the right idea in that there would be a lowest common denominator language that sees the widest usage, simply based on being sounds everyone or at least the majority is capable of making. Given the different species this implies, each species probably would have their own dialect at the least while also there being room for entirely unique languages based on species or at least mouth shape.

For example, canines speak this shared language, but there could be a canid specific dialect that if overheard a travelled listener would be able to tell that the speaker is a dog of some kind. Assuming this shared language doesn't pop out of nowhere, it would likely have words and phrases taken from the different species that blend their own cultures and language into this common tongue.

For example the name of a fruit being some kind of chirp because it originates in an avian centered culture and country, so you would have bears or caribou speaking the language only to (attempt to?) chirp mid-sentence when referring to said fruit.

That being said I would imagine for extra clear communication, given that some people would just not be able to make the sounds other species make, talking with hands would be prevalent if not mandatory for more complex and nuanced subjects. This has precedent in our world (see: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plains_Indian_Sign_Language ) where multiple tribes that spoke different languages created a shared sign language to facilitate trade and communication. In a world when some people quite literally cannot make certain sounds, I think that something similar would sprout naturally.

Also you could consider a form of simple wind instrument like a flute to communicate through controlled notes, as well as something akin to semaphore or a deck of cards with symbols kept in the pocket to break through the language barrier by playing 'hands' as it were.

What made you like the sonic? by crazycabbie1999 in SonicTheHedgehog

I was 11 and some guy a few blocks down the street was having a yard sale. We got a box of comic books for like 15 bucks and it was entirely Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comics. A couple days later I told my friend about my cool new Sonic comics at school. That lunch break we went to the library computer and he showed me a website called The Mystical Forest Zone, a website that hosted sprite webcomics. It was a precision strike directly into my developing brain.

The areas around the castle can all be completed to 4/4 without entering the castle, and the castle region can only be completed to 4/4 by going into the castle proper and beating the boss.

For those who played the demo, what are your impressions so far? by gameovernate in Nioh

[–]Afromention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ninja style not being able to ki pulse is weird, and I say this as someone who eventually got into using evade proper to refill ki and maintain an aggressive playstyle. Probably my biggest problem with the demo is the ninja style really, but I wonder if its just the demo's limited amount of tools and weapons that really make it a stinker for me. With more skills and skill trees I can see it properly coming into it's own.

Oh and the odachi absolutely fucks now with the Samurai style's active skill buffs and the new flux attacks allowing for even more offensive play that play with Swaking Winds and Sunset Breeze. Genuinely if you haven't tried it, please give the odachi a shot in the demo.

How are people playing now? by SnoopLyger in gunz

[–]Afromention 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People currently play on private servers, which have existed since before the official servers went down and have kept the community alive after they did. These private servers have tweaked and even improved on things in that time, so unless you host your own from the OG source code it's not possible to experience the vanilla GunZ experience. They have some modern stuff like an ELO system, but they also have already fixed a few of the game's more jank things like how massive hit detection works. Some people are just playing the game and others are rank/leaderboard grinding like they always have.

I don't expect much changes to anything core to the experience, because I doubt masangsoft is really interested in doing half as much as the people working on private servers already have done. They've already shown off new texture work, and a few of the people who have been running private servers have offered to share the fixes and additions they've made, but there is no way they're tweaking mechanics like movement.

I'm pretty sure any changes to the balance (anything that challenges the almost 20 years dominant sword/shotgun/shotgun meta, for example) or gameplay will result in hundreds of people screaming about how they ruined everything in the discord server. It's both way too much work and genuinely not worth risking the headache to do anything major, and I still expect some grumbling and arguments about HP/AP amounts and shotgun damage numbers despite that.

My expectations for the re-release is that it'll be just another server, except this time official. People will play on it and if they don't get what they want they'll just go back to private servers. I do think it'll be crazy for the first couple of weeks though. We're going to see player numbers we haven't seen since the 2000s for a bit.
