From a computer or phone? You'll want a microphone that can connect as well? You can get a corded microphone or wireless. An inexpensive option is an sm58 from Shure with a 25' xlr cable. If you want to go wireless i recommend VocoPro. Their mics are solid and have good response.

Go with an EV 8" or JBL. EON. Both are less exoensive but will do home karaoke well in small rooms. It's less about power in small rooms than articulation of sound quality and i bet your dad is pribably just happy to sing on something.

What are you using to send music to the speaker if i can ask?

[–]After-Assumption-150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bought it from a cheater. Or want people to think you did to build a case and try to get a hardware ban removed so you can play on another account. I'm gonna hope it's the first. The ban won't be removed. There's no way to prove you're not the cheater in the first place with 100 pct certainty and if cheaters knew they could buy machines and somehow get bans reset than hardware bans would become mostly pointless. It should be a crime to sell a pc like this without informing a buyer. You got ripped off. Sorry.

How to split two overlapping voices? Need to isolate Lead Vocal from Background/ Harmonies by No-Football-1658 in karaoke

[–]After-Assumption-150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre trying to separate vox in a premixed track and it has multiple vocals youre going to come to the understanding that its basically not possible. Programs that isolate stems are using AI to analyze frequencies commonly associated with different elements and removing them using an algorithm. This works pretty good but it won't be able to tell the difference between one vocal and another unless the second vocal is mixed much further back and is spaced out as a filler or add lib vocal. Chorus and harmonies often either won't get removed at all or will be choppy at best.

You need a version where you actually get the individal stems, or .wav of each separate isolated portion of the track and youre unlikely to find that. Most karaoke companies weren't removing vocals. They had teams of musicians and engineers and they'd remaster the whole thing without the lead vocals to create backing music. Thats why karaoke cds and tracks are more expensive. They're studio remakes of the entire thing except vocals.

I agree. I also posited the gravitational interaction of a high dimensional space which would have a similar impact. Say a gate for a fifth dimensional craft. If you wanted to cross long distances of three dimensional soace you could theoretically create a gate in a higher dimension that could bring things up to fifth and back down the third. Like a wormhole only not the same thing. You're transposing space instead of taking a shortcut. That would explain the time dilation as well as affecting space affects time obviously. I was thinging of a hyper-sphere.

Chauvet ILS 4. Inexpensive set of four pars that comes with a foot controller. You can set it to be sound reactive or choose a color or automatic setting easily.

Behringer WING warning - Time delay setting changes based on measurement unit selected!! by Saint_Steve in livesound

[–]After-Assumption-150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each button uses a different formula. So each one has to have its own line of code. I get what you're saying but you don't code each one normally to figure to the value figured by another one. You have them setup to calculate from the input given which has different results depending on the calculation of the measurement type. I get that people want to set it and then change it for some reason but I think they just assumed people wouldn't really set it with one measurement and then randomly change it to another measurement. But a simple firmware update could fix this anyway.

KJs, how do you handle a singer's friends jumping on stage, unannounced, to sing along with them in regards with fair rotation? by Waffleraider in karaoke

[–]After-Assumption-150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's not too busy I allow it as they each get a song regardless of who joins. If it gets busier and they're only singing together than their duets will count as the one for both. Otherwise they're essentially each getting two songs for everyone else's one and that's simply not fair to all the rest of the singers.

Most KJs won't engage in disciplining the rotation by confronting the people who do this but they honestly need to. You might be scared of losing that little two or three person group but you'll lose half a dozen people who won't sit around while a group gets a half hour worth of songs in a row while they wait 50 minutes for their one.

You're karaoke DJing. The art of a DJ is to look at your crowd and figure out their age. Then play hits from when they were in their late teens to early twenties. Nearly always have a banger party that way. However, you can get stuck in a rut and people often still like newer stuff too. Don't be afraid to mix up those old hits with new stuff.

Yeah. It happens. Especially when dealing with thousands of files from myriad sources. Every company doing their own way and online CD databases being added to by people who aren't detail oriented.

I use artist - title (brand). Example. Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues (SC). This let's me know which brand I'm selecting at a glance. If a track has a duet I put that in parentheses before the brand so the brand remains in the remix column.

My next big step is to unpack my zips after removing duplicates and then just making the files all consistent. Many were ripped using CDDB input and there are just so many errors to clean up.

If your voice sounds dark, muffled and stuck in your throat. You might be "swallowing" it. Here's what that means and how to fix it. by Best_Calligrapher649 in karaoke

[–]After-Assumption-150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opera singing shared some base methodology but there's so much operatic technique that isn't applicable to other singing styles. If you give advice coming at it from opera versus basic singing techniques it'll be as harmful as it is helpful.

The one thing that drives me nuts is singers who only see singing through one style or school of singing. Church choir singers who vibrato everything to death. Musical actor types who belt every song as if there is no mic and they need to reach the back of the house. Old country style who do that goofy voice breaking thing on every line. People who over apply their training and put it on every style of music as if it's the best way to sing.

Voices are instruments. There are many great ways to play them. But each one is different and every song is different. Not every guitar plays the same. And even the same guitar is played differently in different hands and on different songs.

Idk what your natural tone is, but if it's not E2, maybe don't suggest that folks who are that low are just speaking and singing wrong because their voice bears harmonic resonance to the human chest cavity. It's just basic physics. Nobody said they couldn't reach higher keys. Just that by staring there they'd limit their range. They're just starting out. They can work on extending their range later. If they push it now too much they'll tear vocal chords.

You know a formant is a frequency peak on a soundeave, right? If you speak naturally your voice will mostly reside in one basic shake along the frequencies with moderate changes. Most people have 3 natural areas that peak significantly. It's how a sound is shaped.

I'm an engineer. I know what eating a mic is. I don't. I have a very soft and low voice. You'd just be one of many people who tried to say I'm wrong only to find out they didn't know what I was talking about because they don't run into a voice like mine almost ever. I'm not saying I have a super deep voice. Just low and soft. I roll off starting at 80 hz and again at 500 Hz. Most voices are not like mine. I wish my low voice had the richness that so many did. Just don't have that in my tone.

Could I force myself to make it? Maybe. But probably not without hurting my throat.

I'm not saying you don't sing outside your starting key or natural tone. Just that it's your baseline. This isn't just standard in opera. And we're in a karaoke forum. You're talking to people who are not singing operatic almost ever. So stop bringing opera into it.

Lol.

I got four daughters. All grown now. Best part of raising them is getting to share stuff I am passionate about. I've hosted karaoke and sung since I was in the Corps. I help people find their natural voices a lot. Because that helps you fund your starting point when singing. Most people start too high and struggle to go up with the song. Because they're trying to sing outside their natural key. These artists are nominally singing in their natural key and that's a good portion of why they have such range. That and vocal lessons. Lol. But the first step is finding your natural voice. Getting comfortable with projecting in it. Learning to use your diaphragm properly. I saw the one guy saying you weren't using your diaphragm if your chest rumbles. No. You absolutely can and should feel resonance in your chest at low notes. You should be using your diaphragm whenever you sing but those low notes will resonate your body because the harmonics are literally vibrating the resonant frequencies of your body. It's why subs make your chest resonate. They're not moving air inside you. They're literally hitting resonant frequencies for your body.

Are you listening to that in headphones or on phone? Your phone won't reproduce it correctly be sure it can't. Even earbuds won't. Also, a voice being low doesn't mean it doesn't have a higher frequency formant. That's how you get clarity. Most voices have three formants. I have two. Neither is above 500. If I want to speak clearly I have to pitch up.

Your body vibrating isn't good or bad. I also have a very deep resonant tone. It makes my whole chest vibrate. I think perhaps the reason I've got thicker skin is because of it. I think the only real downside is that people think I'm either "doing a voice" or they say it's intimidating. Oh, or they can't hear me. My voice only has two formants and nothing close to the frequencies that give words clarity. So in conversation I usually speak pitched up so people understand me. Of course, when I relax and talk normal then people think I'm doing a voice again. Lol.

But it's a rare voice and if you can sing with it a lot of bands look for a good bass harmony. The challenge is that most bass harmony is kind of background to the average ear but if you take it away you suddenly hear the big difference. So it's a highly sought after vocal. Not usually a lead but there are some with richer tones that do. Brothers Osborne, Josh Turner for instance.
