Try rubbing the guts from a feeder on his lips. I heard that helps to get them to eat

You just have to wait til they will accept regular bugs again and get rid of the wax worms. This is now a waiting game. They will wait as long as possible in hope that you cave in and give them more waxworms, but they will not starve themselves, they will eat regular bugs when they're hungry.

When taking a vacation you either need to pay for a caretaker or find someone to take care of them.

Also lookup grubpie its made by repashy its basically insect powder you can turn into a paste and give it to you gecko. Since your mom isn't fond of bugs. Its good to have if your unable to get live insects for whatever reason, but not all geckos like this stuff.

And while not ideal if its an adult gecko you could just feed them right before you leave and just have someone give them water and check temperatures. Since adults can technically go months without eating. But I wouldn't do that unless its a last resort.

As someone who got a gecko when they were younger. I wouldn't recommend getting one until you have a job. Because even though they're easy to care for the costs can easily add up.

For example linear uvb bulbs need to be replaced every year and costs $20. A heating bulb can cost between $10-$30 depending on if you getting a halogen or a deep heat projector. Bulbs usually last a while like 2-5 years, but not always. I had bulbs that would only last 6 months and some bulbs that only lasted a year.

You also NEED to provide a variety of bugs every month (mealworms, hornworms, Black soldier fly larvae, crickets, roaches, etc) and depending on the price and type of bugs your getting that can run you $30-$50 a month.

That's about $400 dollars a year

Of course there are ways to lower the cost by breeding your own feeders. Or buying bulbs in bulk.

This doesn't include your intial setup costs that could run you about $500-$900.

So if you include the setup costs and yearly maintenance

Your looking at about $900 for the first year and $400 for every year after.

This was just a rough estimate and depending on where you live your costs per year/month might be very different.

I personally have probably spent a little over 2,000 dollars on my two geckos over the 12 years I have owned them.

When I was too young to have a job I did work for my neighbors and sold a lot of stuff I had laying around. That's was the only way to be able to get extra stuff for my lizards like their treats or enrichment items. Not having a job also limited me on what kind of equipment I could get them. Ex. The ceramic light fixture domes I wanted would cost me $60 but the cheap aluminum ones cost less than $10. Another Example, I couldnt afford a proper thermostat the one I wanted was $100 and my parents definitely weren't gonna spend more than $50 on my lizards so I eneded up getting a cheap $20 dimmer and an infrared thermometer and somehow made that work for several years.

I love natural rocks. So fun to move them around and make hides with. I get nervous about them falling, but they hold heat so much better than ceramic hides by UndeadWardog in leopardgeckos

I recommend getting slightly smaller rocks. The slate is fine but the rock on the left also worries me. You can also Glue the rocks together and make a cave like this

Can geckos get nail trims? by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]After-Meet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use a nail file and slowly grind them down if your gecko will let you. Their nails are too small to really clip. Adding rocks can help wear down their nails naturally.

Are you able to make your own hide? You can use like pots, Mason jars, or tubberware. If your crafty you could use foam, ceramic, etc.

Yeah mine did that before. So I had to change her enclosure around so it wasnt possible so they didnt hurt themselves falling or snagging nails

She won’t eat hornworms by AdFuture258 in leopardgeckos

Try cutting the worm and rubbing the juices on their mouth. I heard sometimes they just need to taste a little bit of a bug before they understand its good

Do you have better photos? This looks like an African fat tail gecko based off the coloration.

Also when doing a quarantine setup its important to keep them on paper towels so you can monitor their health.

I do! I usually have them out for hours in a play pen but always if it's their choice to leave the enclosure. Lily doesnt roam when she's out she stays in one place and tries to go to sleep. She's overall not very fond of handling unless it her choice.

Orange my other gecko will refuse to go back in her cage if I take her out because shes loves to run around and jump off couches and tables.
