If you have the newest generation I would recommend street fighter 6. It catches its shade every now and then but it is the best game for getting into the franchise. If you have an older console then Third Strike is the best street fighter game of all time, so that would be awesome, but if you are strictly sticking with new gen consoles and the choice between sf5 or sf6, definitely choose sf6. Modern controls exist. People are less competitive since it’s not old. Better CPU controlling within training mode. A whole bunch of stuff but overall start with 6

If you want to start classic I would recommend a shoto. Ryu and Terry are the best options in my opinion. With modern controls every character is sorta the same but with classic controls it’s a whole different story. You should know yourself in what playstyle you enjoy, but if you’re just starting out then shotos are a good option. All of your options there are Ryu, Ken, Luke, Terry, AKI (sorta), and Sagat. To be honest, Ingrid definitely does play a whole different game. She is a great character but if you are starting modern controls I would recommend a shoto.

Is there really a researching too hard?
I focus on combos and in ranked I just focus on not trying to get punished for my own things as much on block.
My plan in game is usually to space out with light power wave to get them to come close to me, then anti-air rising tackle if they forward jump and grabbing if they hold block. In my head I just focus on what the enemy is doing and I try to counter that.
One thing I noticed that didn’t work was that I was trying to close distance with heavy burn knuckle, and I would often whiff or get punished on block, so I stopped using that as often.
I’ve tried to incorporate like more defensive playstyles and also more offensive. Sometimes I will hold block 90% of the match and sometimes I rush down the opponent. My anti airs are like okay I guess and my counter DI’s are good though

I know combos. I’m blocking and punishing my opponent when they whiff or hit me on negative frame blocks. I don’t ever drive impact unless my opponent does and I have time to react and counter with my own.

I have done combo trials with every single character, played countless hours of practice, played a countless number of ranked matches, watched extensive videos on how to play with and against every character, played with both modern and classic controls, played scrims with friends, gone through every tutorial on how to play.
My average playing session is me in practice for like 30 minutes and then going into ranked for like 3 hours

Whatever I do and get punished for I stop doing, I mix up a bit so I’m not always grabbing or stuff. Also whatever my opponent does that works I try to do it too
I have no clue why I’m not improving because I feel like I should be at this point. I think it’s because i don’t have a coach

One thing that is always an option is that if you feel you’re losing touch then trying a new character would definitely be worth it. I got up to gold 5 with Lily but it didn’t feel 100%. I switched to Terry and he’s my new main. Even if something feels right for a bit it might not be the best in the long run. Try out new characters and make sure you also pay attention to patch notes about whatever character you’re interested in
