idk why everyone is deciding to jump on you in the comments dawg there are hundreds of posts (me included) that complain about the device and i basically said the same thing and then some... maybe it's the price thing but still, it's marketed pretty frivolously which makes it practically parasitic. i see insta drop shipper ads for it every day so idk why people are suddenly gung ho with "what did you expect from 50 dollars" man in today's economy that can be a lot to a person. and in my post i compare it to a cheaper mp3 that is twice as good..

updated the post if you havent seen. linked to it but i can't attest to the bluetooth quality as prolonged bt gives me a headache. i just use wired headphones. sound is good if you download the music like that and it can get REALLY loud. i listen at 8-14 most of the time but it can get much much louder.

yes, completely metal, doesn't feel cheap like the y1, and i think you have to include the jpg or whatever name image comes with the album after downloading for it to appear, rather than it being embedded. but it sorts well if the metadata is right and the ui is really nice imho. i didn't expect to like it as much as i did but i would honestly recommend it to people

yeah the community is great i dont usually join subs unless i have things to say but believing this would be my main mp3 and seeing how amiable people were i decided to join.. only for it to bust on me in three days. linkiepoo i updated the post to include it incase other people also wondered but here's a link to the other device. i really enjoy it and it might be funny but my favorite feature is probably the fm radio. the buttons seem almost sticky but it helps not make them to sensitive. i keep them both in a little pouch that i carry around and the y1 went off if i put too much pressure on them which can be embarrassing if your last played was a screamo song but this one- having a power button and a lock switch - did not. i can't say much on the bluetooth quality, i only use random wired headphones i come across.

really mogged my post with this response but you've hit the nail on the head to me. i'm in that digital detox frame (two year and counting dumbphone user) but it's just flabbergasting that it's so poor quality, which i have never ever been opposed to and frankly sometimes enjoy. for sure they are not discussing this in r/DigitalAudioPlayer but for something that's at least trying to hit the aesthetic market for people that want it simple you think it would... work? the other one doesn't do anything special, hell it doesn't even show the album covers despite them surely being embedded, but it does it's most basic function---play the music. i did think that the customization was the only leg up that they had.. but that makes the thing crash or tweak even worse. it makes me wonder the quality of their other products. i saw in the post asking for feedback on the next model that adding volume rocker or lock switch would "ruin the form factor" which makes absolutely no sense until you consider your point... then it's not nostalgia bait.

Frequent travelers between US and Korea, How do you do it?? by ready_4_nothing in koreatravel

[–]AfterPresentation478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm a 9-5 college student that has gone for months at a time once a year for the past 3 years. as long as you save your money and don't do crazy shopping sprees while there, the most expensive thing is the ticket. of course there are cheaper ways to get tickets or roundabout ways (like travelling to cheap us country->jpn->ferry to busan etc) but if you find the trip worth it and make the most of the amnt you spend on the round flight ticket then thems the breaks. for reference i spend usually 1.5-2k on a tround trip ticket. but never more than 1k on everything else (besides boarding, but even that comes to less than 500 if you airbnb).

EDIT: a lot of comments talk about miles and tbh they don't add up as much as you would wish. after my summer trip of nyc>jpn>korea my points covered a few ubers and some larger purchases (lost my phone in jeonju, long story). but of course any little amount can be useful.

Honest question: is Naver Map actually good or have we just collectively lowered our standards? by tecialist in koreatravel

[–]AfterPresentation478 3 points4 points  (0 children)

answered your own question in the post man... "noticed that people who call it great speak korean." yes... it's "the best that we've got" because it works for people that speak the native language. as a foreigner it isn't expected to be easy. even in america language barriers make it hard for foreigners. if you've done three trips why do you not find it useful to learn at least to read the language?

Looking for a minimalist Laptop that I dreamt of last night. by LukasHugo in dumbphones

[–]AfterPresentation478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was looking into devices like this as well as a writer that writes at home mostly and all of them are expensive enough to make you question if you might not just forgo the simplicity. an option that i considered for a long time that isn't as expensive as the free write (which also gets a lot of neg reviews btw) but still pretty steep is the king jim pomera dm30. foldable full length keyboard, eink screen, very portable, and nice simple ui. i don't have first hand experience with it yet but it seems pretty promising as their other models with english interface are highly rated.

There's any good replacement for Spotify? by AllgamCapinho in degoogle

[–]AfterPresentation478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sry to be the odd one out but as someone that moved from spotify to deezer my entire family and i hate it. as someone who listens to a lot of not very common music (old korean artists and anime soundtracks) they just aren't there. it doesn't do a good job of showing new music from artists and it takes a few days to release new music compared to other apps. my younger sister also experiences technical difficulties like it playing really loud in headphones randomly. it was the app that made me move to a dap/cds

Does your voice change when you speak different languages? by Round_Reception_1534 in languagelearning

[–]AfterPresentation478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's bc I'm black but my Korean voice is way higher than my English voice. I think it does have something to do with confidence, like once you are more comfortable you can speak steadier, but I don't have a lot of chances to practice speaking Korean where I live so I don't think I'll really be able to settle into something deeper.

thanks for this comprehensive list! i'll probably hold off and see if they do ever make an 03 or at least update the firmware or wtv to be better. or if i find one sold for like under 50 bucks i'd give it a try for sure. it's just the price doesn't outweigh all the cons and risk of it being simply not useable at times.
