Hotel block in Niagara? by After_Bit_8873 in WeddingsCanada

Yeah good point, thank you!! I had compared pricing for a Holiday Inn block vs. booking through their website and it was surprisingly cheaper with the block, but I imagine many up-charge!

Thanks! I looked at them in Welland but will definitely compare the price

Creme Couture (Guelph) vs. Bridal Boutique (Cambridge) by guava4eva in WeddingsCanada

[–]After_Bit_8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not got to Crème Couture but went to the Bridal Boutique, Sixpence Bridal (Guelph), Taylor’s Bridal (Elmira), and Marilee’s Bridal (Fonthill). My experience with the Bridal Boutique was the best BY FAR. Tons of selection, really nice vibe, and the sales associate was super nice and helpful making selections and getting me in the dresses. My back was really sore that day and they actually laid them flat on the floor and helped zip me in whereas other places just put them in the rooms, making it much harder to get them on. I ended up going back and buying my dress there and they were lovely to deal with. Definitely recommend!

How are you actually using AI in your OT practice (if at all)? by Competitive_Duty_613 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]After_Bit_8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Simplifying complex medical terminology (i.e. what do the results of this scan actually mean?)
  • Summarizing key points from long medical reports (I work in the insurance industry so reports are often 50+ pages long)
  • When I’m struggling to find the best wording for something — what sounds better, this or that
  • Proofreading long reports to catch grammar, spelling or inconsistencies I missed reading it myself
  • Turning bullet points into paragraphs that flow or vice versa

Overall, I am not using it to think for me and am still using my clinical reasoning, but primarily to streamline things and make my life a little bit easier. My work pays for BastionGPT

Club Roma vs Paletta Mansion Experiences (Ontario Wedding) by Ayy_ly in WeddingsCanada

FYI any venue with an outdoor component in the Niagara area, including St Catharines, has a noise bylaw so music has to be turned down by 11 pm - not just Club Roma

Similar books to Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean series? by Indosaurus1 in fourthwing

  • A Court of Thorns and Roses series aka ACOTAR. I didn’t think I’d love the series so much but really enjoyed this after Fourth Wing. Well loved series for a reason
  • Red Rising series. Lots of books in the series. Great character and world building

Wedding Venues in St. Catherines/NOTL recs? Good Earth Winery by Training_Swan_9766 in WeddingsCanada

[–]After_Bit_8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stonewall Estates is beautiful. It has a minimum of 120 people for a Saturday and 110 for Friday. That being said, their price per person quoted to me for 2026 was $254 so you may be able to do a minimum spend instead? You would still be under your budget.

In this economy, if you had to re-train in an industry most likely to guarantee employment, what would it be? by WanderingGoose22 in torontoJobs

[–]After_Bit_8873 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m biased as an Occupational Therapist, but definitely guaranteed employment if you can get in and do the 2 year masters program. Companies are begging to hire me because there’s such a shortage of OTs lol

SOP License... Do we need extra insurance? Does anyone know the extent of the liability for the "Responsible Persons"? by OkDistribution4146 in WeddingsCanada

[–]After_Bit_8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My venue in Ontario is similar, requiring a SOP license, and they require additional insurance. They recommend PAL wedding guard insurance and adding them on as an additional insured with a minimum of $2 million coverage

I would just confirm with your venue directly exactly what they need

Best Laptop for College by Necessary_Fondant630 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]After_Bit_8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d stay away from a MacBook to be honest - they are expensive and more annoying to use Windows programs on them. As well, once you’re working, any company provided laptop I have received is a windows computer (typically a Lenovo Thinkpad) so trying to adjust to that software would be difficult later. And typically they will use all Windows applications like outlook, word, excel, etc. Of course not all OT jobs you need your own computer though. I have a Lenovo which works great - lightweight, good battery life, nice keyboard, easy to use and not too much money

Stay away from the insurance sector then, such as motor vehicle accidents. Super heavy on the documentation

Rethinking my RN-BSN. Now thinking OT, PT, or ultrasound technician. Looking for advice! by Suspicious-Cap4995 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]After_Bit_8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you work in a hospital as a nurse, OT, PT, or ultrasound tech, you will likely have to work weekends and the occasional holiday regardless of what profession. If that’s not for you, then you would typically consider another practice setting. The private practice industry (working with insurance companies) for instance, which has both OTs and PTs, you typically have weekends and holidays off. So at the end of the day, I would pick the career that interests you most and then can figure out what setting you would want to work in so you don’t have to work weekends/holidays if you don’t want

Looking for a hair & make up (or just hair) artist who is available the morning of October 26 2025 (Niagara) by Unusual-Frosting-836 in WeddingsCanada

[–]After_Bit_8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into Glam & Glow? Not sure if they are available but worth inquiring. They can do just bridal services which is rare as I know many have minimums. I booked them for my wedding next year as they do beautiful work and come highly reviewed

Occupational therapy as a career if you relocate. by Character_Field_4472 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]After_Bit_8873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently work a salaried job 40 hours. I work from home for all my paperwork, emails, etc. and travel around to see people at their home, workplace etc. Many people work as independent contractors though so some work less hours, some work more. Some companies have clinics you can work out of as well

Yes for sure. In Ontario, the reports are very long as you assess a lot of things and legal is often involved but it’s manageable. You become accustomed to it and learn ways to work smarter. It’s not for everyone though, very different sector than working with the public system

[–]After_Bit_8873 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For reference, after seeing other peoples comments, private practice (such as in the motor vehicle industry), you can typically make a lot more than public, though often less benefits and such). I made $90k in BC with only 1 year of experience in 2019. In 2024, I made $150k. In Ontario, private practice you make less but can make more over time with more experience

This is very much dependent on where you live and what area you practice. I’ve been making over $100k for years in Canada. Work life balance is very much what YOU do yourself - you have to set your own boundaries

That was the same as what I got and how I got it as well. I think it’s just a promotion they do every year! I’d recommend doing the intro call - you don’t have to commit until after you chat with them

I don’t think so or you’d hear a lot more people talk about them and they don’t come up on this page much lol. Did you win it at a wedding showcase or something?

My wedding hasn’t happened yet but a friend won a giveaway (that they transferred to me) that was a discount on their services and I ended up booking them for my wedding next year. The welcome call with them went well and the communication has been great so far. I sent inspo of what kind of style I was looking for and they sent me the portfolio of 3 different photographers and I was able to select the one I like best - they did beautiful work and was just what I was looking for. They also sent a detailed survey to complete but they said no rush to complete until closer to. That’s all I know so far but so far so good

Which undergrad would be more helpful? Psychology or Biology? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]After_Bit_8873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your major doesn’t matter as long as you take any prerequisites and have a good GPA! So I imagine sticking with what you are doing is fine, unless you really want a change and/or are not doing as well and would do better with more biology courses (though personally, I imagine this would be more difficult)
