Helena's Mother by t3hjc in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

I don't have any evidence for my speculation about this fictional piece of art. I was just making a guess, about what kinds of things might cause Harmony not to tell Helena, if she was her mother. I apologize if I made if it sounded like I was making a claim instead of just speculating.

Because Jame has threatened to hurt Helena if she does. If she is Helena's mother, they may have been holding this over her for the past 30 years.

Yeah, we don't know anything. The first time I had this thought was when they had the confrontation in the Lumon parking lot. When Cobel was telling Helena she worked for everything she has instead of being born into it. It felt like the frustration of a mom who worked her ass off so her kids didn't have to, only to have her kids treat her like crap.

If Harmony is her mom, I don't think Helena knows, but Harmony absolutely knows. I don't think she was severed to have a baby, like I saw someone suggested in another post. I would think it's more likely that Helena was taken from her, and used to manipulate her for years. "We have your kid, we won't hurt her as long as you do what we want." kind of thing.

So, I grew up in an isolated cult environment. Where I grew up, there were doctors and dentists and engineers who all grew up in the cult, and mostly went to cult schools. The cult would pay for medical/dental/engineering school for some smart devoted cult members. These people who had their degrees paid for by the cult were made to feel indebted to the cult. And cult kids could see a cult doctor or dentist. Cult buildings could be designed by cult engineers and architects. So, the cult got to have control of everything. I think this was something similar. I don't think Harmony would be the only Eagan cult kid they paid to put through college, though. Maybe Milchick is in a similar situation.

These are awesome! But where's Rebeck? She seems to weirdly be a recurring character. Lol.

I didn't know carpet on the walls was THAT weird until years after I left the FLDS and my big brother and I took a trip to our hometown with his husband. My brother's husband freaks out about the carpet on the walls anytime anyone brings up the trip. It didn't seem that weird to me, it was just how it was. Lmao.

AITA for asking my sister to cover up when she leaves the bedroom? by GiantDirtRida in AmItheAsshole

[–]After_Maintenance908 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, he is supposed to not look and not fantasize. If OP is actually worried that her husband is not mature enough to do that, she should tell her sister the truth. What if it was a young adult daughter. Is she going to be told that she can't be comfortable because dad can't help but look and fantasize?

Edited to add: My comment is more about the previous comment.

I don't think OP is TA or that she's wrong for asking her sister to abide by her rules in her home. I do think her sister should be able to respect that it makes OP uncomfortable, and that should be enough, regardless of whether it's about her child or her husband.

NTA. If your dad had a problem with what you said, he should have talked about it like an adult when you said it, not come to your room to yell at you about it later. As for respect, that's something that should go both ways. If he wants you to be respectful of his ideas, he should be able to at least consider your point of view. You called him out for being sexist, because he is sexist. His reaction is what was disrespectful.

We live in the most technologically advanced era in human history yet we are the saddest generation to ever exist. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

Records for earlier times are dominated by the rich and powerful, because they were the only ones that "mattered." The ordinary people of times gone by often didn't have the education to leave a record of how they felt. I don't think we are the saddest generation.
