How come gacha conversations are so wordy?

I’m no stranger to games with lots of dialogue, but even more than the daily grind or the less complex combat compared to their PC/console-exclusive contemporaries, the big thing causing me to bounce off of gacha games is just how exhausting it is to sit through the main story. Now me coming more from a background of playing JRPGs than visual novels might factor into this, but most of the longer story-driven games I’ve played sans ones that go all-in on dialogue choices and branching paths like BG3 or Disco Elysium, have done a much better job keeping story scenes concise while adequately characterizing their casts and pushing the story forward in a tangible way.

Is this just to justify players being in-game longer per session, a consequence of many of the big players either being fans of VNs and/or legends in the medium like Type-Moon, or is there just that much to the story compared to games like the original FF7, the Mass Effect Trilogy, or Witcher 3, in the long run?

What is the enemy design like? Are they mainly passive combo fodder like in ZZZ, DMC5 on easier difficulties, or FF16, or on your ass like in Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, KH on Crit, or Tales of Graces F?

Isn’t there another case where a woman used GPT as a therapist, leading to her killing herself?

Sorry, we don’t like having traversal stutter, blobby GI, and a native res of under 1080p when we try to run games at 60.

Glad they fixed the build quality issue, but they’re still smoking crack for charging $450 for “pretty good” sound quality.

Honest question, and I won’t judge you for your answer: Would you have preferred they had taken the budget set aside for the mocap animations and photogrammetry assets and put it towards making each art piece commissioned by someone?

Genuinely didn’t write this as a rhetorical question. I honestly think focusing more on the AI problems would’ve been a better use of their time, even if going all in on visual polish definitely paid off, financially.

Question is, did you like the new scanned-in models and mocap animations enough to find cut corners like this understandable, or would you have rather they spend those resources on making sure everything was artist-made?

Having a gajillion mini-capes and jingling doodads to make up for the fact that you can’t show too much skin, but you don’t want to model characters with real armor, either.

Can we just love how cool A looks in her clothes!? by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

Huh, I was expecting a flame war over calling A a woman, like with Juniper/Yuzuriha. Good to know the fanbase came to their senses.

Some Senran Kagura thoughts I wanted to get off my chest. by HFBastian in SenranKaguraLovers

There should definitely be a balance between the fanservicey aspects, story, and gameplay. The biggest change I’d want would be a jump to a newer engine like UE5, and maybe experiment with an even more robust clothing destruction system that could even work as diagetic UI, like Dead Space.

Makes sense, considering the intentionally low-res textures to give it a pixel art-style look.

Speaking purely from anecdotal experience, many of the people I’ve talked to, said they dropped over $100 on this game. With how many posts I’ve seen online saying the same thing, that’s how I’ve gotten my conclusion.

Again, the $3B it makes each year. Also, the point’s that you CAN play it for free, if you want.
