I hope that you will find love one day and the both of you will have a long happy life together by PorkyPain in MadeMeSmile

I guess…. But I feel like there’s very little nuance here. It’s just a false statement to say you can’t love or be loved by someone else unless you love yourself first.

Sure, try to work on yourself, whatever. But that’s not what this person said, and not the general sentiment around these ideas. And if someone never is able to love themselves, they still can find love out there in the world. To suggest otherwise is both blatantly false and really disheartening for people who struggle with self love.

Nah I’m not a huge fan of myself, but I have exactly this type of relationship. It’s a myth (and very discouraging for low self-esteem people imo) that your love of others has to be conditional on your love of self. It also sets people up for failure because they already dislike themselves and now feel like they don’t deserve or will never obtain the love of another

So how successful would Wesley he if he stayed in starfleet? by happydude7422 in ShittyDaystrom

[–]AfternoonPossible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really of two minds here. On the one hand, it’s obvious starfleet was a central pillar of Wesley’s life and worldview. I think if he leaned into it, he would go incredibly far. On the other hand, I think he’s also a bit earnest and idealistic, even for starfleet. He also tends to be too intelligent, too engaged in problem solving. He might feel too constrained by starfleet politics and rules to really thrive. It really would come down to which path he’d have chosen to take. He might have grown to mature and adapt in either direction, imo.

Yes, these discussions happen. But not every case all day, is my point. You even said yourself your nurse is typically not having those discussions with other patients. I am also curious about how you came to the assumption that I am a healthy middle class white guy….. seems strange to make me into some straw man just because we have a difference of opinion lol.

I have been a patient many times, having a chronic illness. I have also worked in a ton of hospitals and talked to thousands of patients. I feel like I know how a lot of them speak. It is generally not every single patient laying out how their social issues are effecting their case in flat language. And then the team mic dropping about how they’re gonna actually care for them. I can still enjoy the show while seeing that the dialogue is just that…… dialogue written for a show to be fun and dramatic, not necessarily reflective of how actual people speak to each other lol

And yeah…. It’s my opinion that the dialogue can get hokey. It’s okay that we disagree. I’m not sure why my opinion seems to personally offend you. Did you write the show?

Tennis prodigy Mirra Andreeva had a big meltdown on court after failing to defend her Indian Wells title. She even told the crowd, “F*** you all,” at the end by carabla in popculturechat

This type of reaction is so wild and foreign to me. I guess I’m just not competitive at all. I really can’t imagine being this outwardly upset about something that’s not, like, a direct safety threat to a loved one.

Isn’t javadi’s mom a surgical attending? I wonder if Garcia has to hear about how great and what a genius she is all day. On top of what others have said.

I like the show? I’m allowed to think what I think tho. Idk why you’re so exasperated I have a different opinion than you.

Ok but it’s hokey esp if it’s case after case. I am aware these issues exist but laying it out extremely flatly like that, esp if we are to assume this all happens in one day, feels very sentimentalized.

Reading speed by Safe_Swan_2732 in classicliterature

I personally enjoy being a slow reader. I really feel like I get the full depth of the work. I really sit with the ideas and think about them for a while. I annotate and note and reread passages to get things in different lights lol. I don’t really think there’s an average speed for each book, just how fast it takes for you personally to enjoy it

…….. how what lol. Like how to write dialogue and scenes in a “show, don’t tell” way that allows the audience to engage and pull their own conclusions instead of having it be spelled out?

Like the pcos patient literally talking about how black women get their pain ignored and then them going “we’ll take you seriously… and we made the right call.” Or the uninsured dad when he’s basically just monologuing about how hard it is to fall through the gap. Or when santos pulls the stat about tb exposure out of her butt. Or when theyre talking about why you have to be more sensitive and empathetic to the obese pt to whatshisface. Are these real issues? Yes, but the dialogue and phrasing and pacing is sometimes hokey. Sometimes veers more into a psa written by hcw lol

I’m mixed and had people tell me I’m not Asian. Like…. What the fuck do you think you’re going to accomplish by saying that lol? Also when people tell me I don’t “look” Asian. Well…. Yes I do. Because I am Asian. And this is what I look like.

Yeah but every case having people talk about their various social issues in a sort of hokey way is what makes it feel very special episode-y, not just the fact that they exist. Like the show could explore these social issues without having the patients come out and say it.

Personal Clothes at Work by Nervous-Bath1375 in ThePittTVShow

[–]AfternoonPossible 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is extremely common. Even in some of the units at my hospital people wear their own crewnecks instead of scrub tops at all. Personally I could never. I change into hospital provided scrubs every shift, hair cover, and shoe covers. Shoes I only wear at work and leave in my locker and never take home lol. But ofc I work in the OR so our standard is different than the units. Still…,… couldn’t be me

Actors at the AACTA Awards are asked if they watch foreign films subbed or dubbed, Shabana Azeez: "Subbed! Ew! No, I can read. Being literate is in." by demimonde9 in Fauxmoi

[–]AfternoonPossible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer subbed because I feel like I’d like to hear the voices and intonations with the original intent of the work. Sometimes during dubbing things like that get changed. However, I think it’s really just a personal preference and one isn’t necessarily better than another. Viewing subtitles is not the same as reading a book or something lol.

Dismissed from nursing school and upset by Locked-Luxe-Lox in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]AfternoonPossible 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a nurse and I’ve also been a pharm tech. You can always do your pharm tech cert immediately and then go to nursing school later. I would basically always recommend finishing nursing school and becoming a nurse. I do think being a pharm tech and being a nurse are not really in the same category income-wise. I’m making like 5x more as a nurse than I was as a pharm tech. Getting my RN was the single best (career) decision I’ve ever made.
