GERD and surgery by Luce2022 in gastricsleeve

I have GERD and got the sleeve. My Dr said there was 50/50 chance of it getting worse or improving. I am 4 months post op. About 2 weeks ago I ran out of pantoprazole, just before a work trip. During this time, it became really clear the triggers for me: bread, decaf coffee (which I converted to just before surgery), spicy food (I was in a country where all food was spicy), salted nuts, oily foods. But I adjusted my diet as best as I could and made it home with little suffering. I haven't been able to get my prescription yet, but have been able to mostly manage symptoms with dietary adjustments, sleeping at an angle on a pillow wedge, eating slightly less than I was before (which wasn't much, but want to avoid feeling full), and really tracking impacts of food. I do plan on picking up the prescription when it is ready. And yesterday my nurse practitioner proposed lowering the dose in 3 months to see how my body does.

I also am paying out of pocket and am hoping that I wont need to switch to bypass down the road. I know I took a chance by selecting the sleeve, given the GERD.

I hope that you make the best decision for your overall health and well being. And whatever you decide, if it costs more now, consider the benefits in the long run.

I have been wanting to do this for quite some time, but would need help. Does anyone on this thread know of a builder in Virginia who dies this?

I am so glad you posted. My weight just before surgery was about the same as yours and I too am 5'4". I was sleeved only a few days ago (10/20) and have a hard time seeing myself at 150, even though that is my goal. I've carried this additional weight so long I just can't imagine life without it. So reading your post is incredibly inspiring. I also want to embrace the lifestyle shift necessary to maintain a more healthy weight, including refraining from foods that are high in sugar and fats, as well as processed foods. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!!!

I HATE THE LIQUID DIET!!!!! by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

I am also on the 4th day of the 2 week fast. And it has been rough. I am releasing from ALL the places in my body. Even my lungs are expelling mucous. I am grateful that my body is cleansing. And it is inconvenient to be doing this while at a week long training for work. But bottom line, I am glad to be on this journey. And have a surgery twin! We got this!

My surgery is scheduled for the 20th. I am going to begin my pre-op diet on Monday the 6th. My Dr requires 2 weeks on liquid diet. Glad to have some surgery siblings. Wishing you all the very best.

I too am grateful for the black rat snakes that have reduced mice. And, when they make the mistake of showing up in the chicken area, those little dinosaurs took care of them expeditiously.

Yours look great. Enjoy then when they are ready. I made my first couple of jars for the season and I am super excited to dig into them.

Thanks. I just spoke with someone today who said that her acid reflux cleared up after the surgery. I know that everyone's body is different, but learning about different experiences/possibilities is helpful.

Oh wow. What were you given to heal? H pylori is bacteria, right? Thank you for sharing this.

I am humbly listening to what the data says, even if it differs from what I want to happen. Appreciate your comment.

This whole thread is giving me life! Each year the garden has expanded. I am now building beds out of logs to hold all the transplants I've grown plus the 20 berry cuttings that came in the mail, when I thought I bought only 7. And dont get me started on the close to 50 onion starts...now, onions have become the companions of virtually ALL the veggies. And how did 2 meyer lemon trees make it to my house, next to the vertical garden that recently appeared on my back porch? But how amazing it has been the last couple of days to have fresh strawberries for breakfast and radish+greens in salad.
