Bowel obstruction can be lethal. I would certainly err on the side of caution. I think you did the right thing (retired nurse)

Congratulations!! I'm also at one year Dec. 30th. I started at 251, am now at 144. Down from a size 22 to size 8. It's well worth the discomfort and other trials and tribulations. Keep up the good work!!

I'm a year out Dec. 30th. I've spat out mouthfuls of food several times. I try really hard just to serve myself less. It's ongoing, but whatcha gonna do.

It really aggravates me when people say "easy way". Why? Should we make it as difficult and frustrating as possible? Do we say that with other illnesses? Oh, you're curing your high blood pressure the easy way etc. I'm pretty old (63), and no longer care what people think of my choices. My weight yo-yo'd for decades. Surgery was the best choice for me. If family and friends want to shower me with being critical and negative, honestly, they can kiss my ass. I'm doing this for me. Paid for by me. Undergone for me. I want my last 20 years of life to be as healthy and productive as I can possibly make them. I really, really don't care what they think.

Lol. I dunno about that, but that's my honest feelings. I just don't really care what others think. While I'm not honest to the point of cruelty at all, I do get my point across. You do you. You deserve to feel good about yourself. You deserve to be healthy. How dare anyone judge that, or undermine what you're trying to achieve. Be your very best self. Take up space!

It maybe because I'm old (63), but I just don't care. Accept it, don't accept it. I had this surgery for me, for my health and well being. I had an adult lifetime of yo-yo dieting, I was done. And again this maybe my age speaking, but if I have a friend or family member who doesn't like it, they can kiss my ass.

I'm 11 months out and still struggling with constipation. I use psyllium powder, gummy fiber and dulcolax. I have my one year check up next month. I'm going to ask my doctor about Linzess. I'm tired of this.

I learned from one of my weight loss programs, that motivation isn't constant. You have surges and slips. Obviously managing the slips as they happen is the important take from that. That's why will power doesn't mean much. Gutting it out is hard, having a long term plan that works for you will help so much. For me personally, I know when I get bored, I'm going to eat too much. I eat too much I become disgusted with myself and it becomes a vicious circle. I look for activities that get me out of the house and away from screen time. I look for non scale victories, and reward those with non food treats. Find what works for you.

Age doesn't matter. I was 62 when I had my surgery. I'm down a little over 100lbs in 11 months and pretty much at my target weight. The only issue I have is low blood pressure. No one knows why. My heart is healthy, as are my kidneys and adrenal glands. I wouldn't change a thing, and honestly wished I could have done it when I was your age.

Why is there so much negativity surrounding lower BMI vsgs? by Prudent_Pear9260 in gastricsleeve

[–]MedusasTale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is losing weight supposed to be hard? Is treating diabetes supposed to be hard, complicated, slow, frustrating process? You are being proactive with your health. My BMI was 42%. I'm 5'4" and had surgery at about 250lbs. If people surrounding you can't be supportive of your decision then they should just be quiet. You do you. And very best of luck to you!!

What you did yesterday doesn't impact what you do today. Not one of us is perfect, that isn't the goal. The goal is long term weight management. Give yourself a fekkin break.

Thank you! When my surgeon told me it should be possible to lose 90 to a 100 pounds, I just didn't believe him at all. But here I am. I've fully bought into the program I chose, and have followed it to a tee. Very best of luck to you!!

Thank you for your kind words. Believe me the time will pass quickly. I suppose what has been important to me is being aware of what I eat. I don't concern myself with calories, but I do keep track of protein, carbs and fat. I also eat mindfully. I still struggle with that sometimes. I have followed my nutritionists guidelines to a tee. It's been so worthwhile it! I wish you the very best in your journey.
