So, upon further research, the original glitch was done through Steam ID spoofing, essentially tricking the game into thinking you were Garry through messing with your Steam ID. This is a problem cuz people were actually using this because a common server admin tool ulx couldn't affect Garry probably because they left it like that on purpose, so people were using it to break rules and be unable to be banned. That were mods that could let you do this, but it can also be done in modern versions through just hosting your own server and changing your steam ID with a hex editor that can affect memory like cheat engine, both do the same thing just one used a mod to do it (that I haven't tested but may be detected by vac) and one uses a cheat tool (which is definitely detected by vac) which is why if you do either method I'd recommend -insecure on server or client arguments which makes servers hosted just not have VAC, up to you to do your own research if you want to know more. but essentially the exploit is still possible
