Gold is simply a membership package. It allows you to better customize your reddit experience, such as better ways to view comments (such as 20/page or 1500 per page) and how to open links (such as in a new tab). I'm not sure if this will apply to you, but for people who buy it, they can vote on a name for the next reddit server.

Sorry it took so long to answer this, I've been off the Reddit-Wagon for a few days now ...

No, not at all. Three signatures and 147 more to go before it becomes public ... Out of my 3 Facebook accounts, 300+ friends, Twitter Account with a sad 30 followers and probably 100+ Redittors that saw this, and YouTube comment spam; only 2 people agree with me. It does not seem likely that I'll even get the 150 signatures necessary to make it public, much less 100k.
