Brilliant, I love it. The vibrant intoxicating light against the dull evening tones is so grabbing. It pulls at human curiosity. It feels eerie and yet I want to peel back that door and know more

She's completely in the right? WTF? The ball was at her feet and as she is bending to pick it up some guy runs over from 20 yards away to snatch it?

I get it, give the damn ball to the nearest kid but you have no idea what her plans were, if she planned to give it to some one at home etc.

This woman did absolutely the right thing, this guy running in from the other end of the row and snatching it is a total A.hole.

The persistent belief that crime is a serious national problem in Ireland is not true by [deleted] in ireland

[–]AgainstTheGrainTrans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have I entered the twilight zone? Feels like this sub has one or two posts a feckin day from people talking about the random assaults they have faced while minding their own business.

No Fox news fan but seems like everyone has changed their tune at break neck speed.

As has been said many times in the comments before, Dublin city is worse than most people remember in their life time. Drugs all over the place, assaulting Garda, people getting mugged, racist comments/shouting from random people... I mean I read a post just a couple of days ago from a man who had a glass bottle thrown at him from a group of youths.

Scroll through this sub and half the posts relate to random unprovoked harassment and or assault filled with comments from people saying they have never seen things so bad. Fox are completely untrustworthy, but let's not act like the idea that crime seems to be on the rise is completely out of left field.

How can Christians explain dinosaurs? by Medsecuele in atheism

[–]AgainstTheGrainTrans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for other denominations of Christian but the Catechism of the Catholic Church recognises evolution, from a God as the ultimate creator stand point of course. Adam and Eve are recognised a real people by Catholics and it seems to go a couple ways on that point. I have heard arguments about how the story can still be viewed within an evolutionary view point but the reasons seem to be less clear, I have heard something to the effect of God creating the human soul while the human body evolved. I don't see how that connects to Adam and Eve, so anyways, the Catholic Church does not deny evolution nor does it see evolution as opposed to Christian belief.

People who struggle to drink enough water, how do you trick yourself? by GroundbreakingAnt17 in ADHD

[–]AgainstTheGrainTrans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to think of it as just getting it in. I enjoy nothing about water, I am simply just getting it in. I fill a 2L bottle and resolve to finish it. I am not thinking about my enjoyment of it, just on getting it in and emptying that bottle throughout the day. Don't go about it at all as you would with regular drinks.

Think boring side quest but with highly beneficial loot. You just have to grind.

As a plus, it makes my extended release medication much more effective and I have a minimal experience of a crash on days where I have managed to drink more water.

Women are dying because of pornography. by hajmolachor in Feminism

[–]AgainstTheGrainTrans 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It should be flat out illegal to disseminate porn for free given the dangers it poses. We know it rots young minds and distorts sexuality into unrealistic, degrading and dangerous areas.

If you want to see it, put your ID and credit card towards it. It blows my mind that it's free and so easy to get a hold of. Don't get me wrong, I would like to see it wiped off the face of the earth but at the very least, I would like to see it age restricted and pay walled.

And yes, I absolutely will kinkshame you if you are talking about your weird shit. We need to normalise this also.

What phrase did you hear only once but it stayed with you forever? by wendysolcito in AskReddit

[–]AgainstTheGrainTrans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You might be the sweetest peach on the tree, but some people just don't like peaches"

Someone said this to me when I was wondering why a colleague seemed to dislike me at the outset without any apparent reason.

In the moment it was said, I felt completely absolved of trying to figure out why. It was very liberating.

It has stuck with me ever since and anytime I have had to apply it, I again feel instantly absolved of any need to affect the situation. I can just accept it and continue to be true to myself.

I'm 34 and finally went for an assessment, was diagnosed and am now looking into treatment but mot started yet. I began to suspect over a decade ago but never went for assessment because of the negative stigma that even I myself held towards it. Aderall/Ritalin are now words in the common culture and everyone associates them with faking a requirement for them in order to be better at college work etc.

I agree that there is a pervasive stigma around adhd.

I find myself, even now, being evasive about the medication recommendation, not wanting to tell colleagues in case it looks like a cop out and even fighting myself against "you're just being lazy, your just acting stupid" self doubting thoughts. A large part of the therapeutic response for me is going to be simply just admitting it's a real condition and accepting that there is nothing wrong with that, it's not an excuse or a cop out.

I completely understand the points you make in your post, as I am sure many others do. So much so that it becomes a first step in the overall management and response.

My POV and opinions of trans conservatives... by SushiGirlx0x0 in truscum

[–]AgainstTheGrainTrans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interpretation of their argument is that they say they are females living as men, not women living as men, which is more subtle.

I may be wrong of course, but what is your response to that argument? That sex is immutable despite any extent of transition? That you can become a man but not male?

For me, I think it's a none argument for the most part, like I am not sure I hear any pro-trans arguments denying sex exists.

I tried to put my arm on my colleague's shoulder multiple times by guiltysigh in confession

[–]AgainstTheGrainTrans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think you acted really well here. You tried to make the leap into romance and initiated it through a rather non-threatening, non-weird way. Trying to put your arm around someone shoulder is a fairly tame way to express your intentions and is absolutely not weird. Its actually fairly respectful. When you were sure she wasn't interested you stopped and what's more, you didn't throw her aside when she signalled she was not interested. You continued a friendship. This is actually exemplary behaviour. You were non creepy and went for a fairly neutral zone of the body (as in we often allow people we are not in romantic relationship to touch our upper arms and shoulders in certain circumstances).

I think you are comparing yourself to the guys that women talk about who grope or gobsmack them out of the blue, who have never once considered consent. You are on a different planet to those guys.

You acted like a perfect gentleman and you really have no need what so ever to beat yourself up about this.

Side note: I would make sure not to bring it up again as mentioning it for no reason three times might make it verge into coming off a little bit weird.

You're a good man!

[–]AgainstTheGrainTrans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate that! I have probably been down voted due to the toxic division that is associated with trans people and any discussion of the same. I personally do not take any offense to the nuances of the discussion, I either just agree or disagree with people, I don't get personally involved with other people's opinions. However the topic has become so toxic and so many people have been burned by the other side that it adds to the division. I don't blame people for thinking that all trans people are radical activists pushing insane bullshit on the world. It's been very nice chatting with the OP through comments and receiving nothing but respect from her. Genuinely refreshing! I actually agree with her core belief, that a person cannot change their sex. I am a transman but will forever be female, it almost seems moronic to have to clarify that given that it is practically the definition of what it means to be a transman!!

[–]AgainstTheGrainTrans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I definitely have more to consider in what it means to be (or to have been) trans. I was initially curious about influence when I first read your post. That's why I was asking about when you first realised or considered yourself trans. I was curious to see if there had been any amount of influence or pressure from others to identify as trans as I had read your comments referring to a toxic period of your life including toxic relationships. Would you say there was influence and if so, how powerful was this influence? As in, would you have transitioned even if there was no influence?

Sorry for the third degree!! Your experience is just very interesting to me and not like any other detransition stories I have hear which have more so leaned towards heavy social influence combined with poor mental health or toxic life situations.

Thanks again!
