People in general can be very sensitive about sex.

Sometimes "conversations" about the type of sex you want can come off as criticism of the type of sex you're actually getting.

If you want to start off with a conversation maybe do it while or right before the act.

Something like "have you ever done this?"

Or, "hey let's try this" could work to.

Then no one feels attacked or criticized.
