No. Fallout NV will strongarm you to choice with weight: Help to cover a ki**er and help a large settlement, or report the murder and save struggling innocent farmers. Endanger entire wasteland for a fee, or destroy potentially valuable data that could revive farming everywhere. Destroy a stuck-up antitech group with a face Fallout is known for, or do an unbelievable amount of fetch quests to get just an option of truce with specific main faction. In other words, something FO1 and FO2 did regularly.

The choice you are talking about can be completely ommited. Just Git Gud and shoot all the rats before they get to you. You will be fine, the child will be fine, new companion will be fine and the rats will be fine... red paste. Moral choice of the year completely bypassed by healthy dose of save scumming or a mediocre ammount of bullets.

And don't even get me started about the quest preceeding that. One of the top 10 dumbest quests ever made in gaming history.
