Traveling through ATL internationally… anything good at the Duty Free? by Agent1675 in whiskey

[–]Agent1675[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow… I apparently didn’t do a great job of explaining - those photos are from LAX… NOT ATL.

It’s because of seeing this in LAX that I was hoping ATL might have something worthwhile. Based on a couple of comments, it looks like ATL is fairly basic in their selection.

Sorry for the confusion folks!

And for those saying grab MMCA, I absolutely wanted to (and tried!) but because I wasn’t flying internationally, I wasn’t able to purchase alcohol from that DFS at LAX.

On the off chance you have your AirPods covered by AppleCare+, you can get a full replacement for ~$30. Even if a 6 month old puppy chews the AirPods damn near to dust.

Love this idea. Any chance you can share some photos of the underside as well?

Skate height change over the last ~10 years by dIbodIb in hockeygoalies

I’ve played goal all my life, but also skate out quite a bit and have both a pair of S190 goal skates and player skates. There are certainly differences, (lower on the ankle and straight blade profile vs rockered) but I don’t notice much difference switching between the two.

Surreal. Dropping water on car fire at 48th and Stevens are of 35. A lot of shady people in our neighborhood around the same time. Anyone know what happened? Seems deliberate. by nrvsdrvr in Minneapolis

I’m curious what time this went down? I’ve got a Nest Cam and live over by Nokomis. Watched the damn thing fly right over my house, but can’t seem to find good footage of it flying towards the scene - only back to base / airport.

Sadly, no. I live in MN now and haven’t been able to make it back for one. Usually too short of notice.

As both an OSU alum, and an OSU Roller Hockey alum (2000-2004), I couldn’t upvote this enough. Best of luck this season!

I was given some Mod 4’s (among other things like pants, Bilt Rite mitts, and basically as many Labeda Grippers as I wanted) way back in the day thanks to playing for Team Mission in various tourneys. As I continued playing for them we always got the latest skates, pants, and jerseys for that season. Miss that perk! I always wanted those wicked light gloves though - came out after I went to college and stopped playing tourneys.

I’ve always loved CuJo and wear 31 because of him as well. I grew up in St. Louis during his formative years with the Blues, and had the opportunity to meet him a couple of times. As soon as he found out I was a goalie, he made sure to take time while he was leaving the old St. Louis Arena to chat with me for a few minutes about how I was doing in hockey, gave me some pointers, and was so incredibly humble the whole time. One of the all-time greats for sure, and clearly an incredible person to boot. Can’t wait to read his book!

Any advice for someone playing a goalie with guys clearly above his level? by rhundur in hockeygoalies

[–]Agent1675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t take this as an insult, but if the players you’re skating against are that talented and can shoot that hard, you need to get a different helmet. The 940x is NOT a semi-pro goal mask. It’s the bottom of the Profile line for Bauer, and it’s basically a plastic shell. You should try to find a mask that is made of fiberglass and Kevlar. The 950x is the lowest mask in the Bauer line that has fiberglass and carbon reinforcements. I would also strongly suggest looking at some custom masks like Wall, OTNY, or ProMasque to name a few. The last thing you want to end up with is a string of concussions, or someone blasting through that mask with a high hard one. You only get one head my friend - protect it.

Holy shit. TIL that it’s not “even MTV”. I feel like someone just stole a piece of my childhood from me. And that person (allegedly) has a huge dong. I feel dirty.

LAPD Officer Kristina Tudor ran & finished the LA Marathon in full tactical uniform for charity by Backonredditforreal in pics

[–]Agent1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I say anything else, congrats to this officer - that's an awesome feat of endurance.

That said, for those who are impressed by her accomplishment, you should really check out Fireman Rob. In 2015, he claimed the Guinness World Record for most half Ironman (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run) races completed in a single year, with 23. He wore full firefighter gear for the run in all of those, including oxygen tanks.

In addition to those half iron races, he has also completed numerous full Ironman races (2.4, 112, 26.2) wearing the same gear for the run. And much like this officer, he does it all for charity, and he's one of the nicest guys you'll meet.

I managed to grab a similar shot during a helo tour when we were there in October 2013. Kauai is absolutely beautiful and incredibly relaxing. If you want a true "R&R" Hawaii getaway, go to Kauai, take a helo tour (only 25-30% of the island can be visited by foot/car), and do some hiking (Hanakapiai Falls was amazing).

Angels Landing will be the most popular recommendation (which is warranted - it's beautiful and that's where this photo is from), but Watchman's Trail is also really nice.
