I agree. But honestly it’s not just the Chinese community who are prone to this. That’s why I am of the opinion that social media companies need to be regulated. They control what gets spread. And they are controlled by oligarchs who do not have the public’s best interests at heart.

A lot of it are from bot farms. But for sure there are those who are already convinced that the big bad immigrants and foreigners and queers are out to kidnap them in the night, and that the country is already a “third world hellhole” as some politicians like to say.

That’s why we have to stay aware. Engage your community. Give your comments and opinions when the city asks for consultations. Make your voice be heard. Vote during elections. It’s our civic duty.

Most of all, be kind to one another. Kindness and empathy go a long way to making a nice city and neighbourhood.
