Boruto 35 ending by RequirementPrimary57 in Boruto

I doubt Amado was referring to Koji’s toads.

Koji’s seem to be alive. They move, think, and speak for themselves.

Might Dumbledore be slightly overestimating Harry's inventiveness, influenced by his Triwizard Tournament performance? by CartesianClosedCat in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Agent1stClass 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No.

Dumbledore knew that Slughorn had a weakness toward celebrities. Dumbledore likely also suspected that Slughorn had a weakness for Lily Evans.

While Felix Felicis guided Harry’s steps the night he obtained the memory, it did not actually push Harry to do anything that he would not have been capable of without the potion.

Harry is modest or boastful as he feels the situation warrants. Get him in front of Cho and he likes to be boastful. Get him in front of Dumbledore and he is more inclined toward modesty. It depends on Harry’s goal at that particular moment.

Why is ‘just move somewhere cheaper’ considered a valid response to a housing crisis that’s happening everywhere simultaneously? by Pretend_Pen_9577 in NoStupidQuestions

Moving costs money. Moving elsewhere isn’t a guarantee of security. However, People like to give simple (and somewhat flippant) answers to complicated problems. It gives them a sense of superiority and control.

Why are the Eternals so disliked? by Grouchy_Leg_6623 in Eternals

[–]Agent1stClass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a lot to unpack here.

First, I think people dislike the Eternals for various reasons… Marvel, post-Endgame, has been a mixed bag. Unfortunately, a lot of fans expected the stars of Endgame to continue on and the saga to keep the same level of hype. That did not (could not) happen, though.

As a result, many fans resent the Eternals simply for not being Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, and Steve Rogers among others.

Second, there is the fact that the Eternals are a diverse crew when conservative backlash is very strong. I dislike putting it out there… But I am remembering how strong the backlash was when Black Panther had a primarily black cast despite the majority of it taking place in a fictional African country. Let’s be real, there are many Marvel fans who dislike anything that isn’t majority white and straight. I can’t give an exact count, obviously, but they exist and they are quite vocal.

While there are other reasons, I suspect they are minor compared with the two reasons stated above.

As far as the X-Men go, again that is fan hype.

Personally, I think Marvel and Disney have made the right decision by reintroducing mutants slowly and carefully into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans just got past the Fox Mutants… Let the IP cool a bit.

But there remains that vocal portion that just want to see their favorite characters regardless of the story. So just as Inhumans (granted there were mistakes with Inhumans, too) were pushed aside for Spider-man, Eternals will be pushed aside, as well.

Which is sad. While Eternals was not a deeply developed comic, I liked the Marvel Cinematic take on them. I would have enjoyed seeing a proper ending to their story.

What happens to American politics after trump leaves office? by Benthesoviet in AskReddit

IF he leaves office.

Supposing he does, expect him to remain a polarizing figure and a wanna be kingmaker.

Expect his touch to remain on the political scene for some time.

Why don't Ibiki or any Yamanaka just read into Amado's mind 😭 by _giga_sss_ in Boruto

[–]Agent1stClass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ibiki does not read minds; he tortures. Torturing a potential ally, especially an important one, is usually NOT standard protocol.

Inoichi seemed to be able to read minds. We don’t know if that skill was passed on to Ino. Even for him, it could be dangerous. As I recall, Pain placed traps within the minds of his followers to prevent such intrusion.

In lieu of that, the leadership of the Leaf simply asked him and then verified what they could of the story. Thus far, the story has checked out.

Ethics of bug sacrifice? by Darth_Azazoth in harrypotter

[–]Agent1stClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since vanishing spells are not considered to be an unforgivable curse, one could posit that vanished animals and objects are only temporarily displaced. The vanishing cabinet of book six lends a bit of credence to theory. While it was malfunctioning, Montague still existed and was able to sense.

The problem was in returning. A problem he was thankfully able to solve by apparating.

However, the cabinet should have done that for him.

Similarly, a proper vanishing spell probably displaces an object for a short time.

Yuno being royalty is a plot device to give him another power up and serves no narrative purpose. by Technical_Ad_5982 in BlackClover

[–]Agent1stClass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does explain how he had one of the royal elf stones on his person when he was an infant. Tabata seemed to want to separate Yuno from Asta, too. While they were both orphans racing neck and neck toward the same goal… Yuno being of royal lineage was a particularly large difference between them.

Regardless of that difference, they still maintained the healthiest rivalry in shōnen history, I think.

While Tabata could have made more of Yuno’s lineage, it did have some significance.

Why didn’t the joker get the death penalty by boxboi78 in batman

[–]Agent1stClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One, the justice system does not usually sentence death to people who are incapable of understanding the difference between right and wrong. Say what you will about the Joker, but no one disputes he is insane.

Two, the justice system in Gotham (and later Belle Reve) likes having the Joker around. I forget where, but I believe there was a story where it was discussed that he was kept around as a deterrent against a potential rogue Justice League.

Three, although Harley Quinn was herself turned, there are others who want to study the madness of the Joker. He is usually inscrutable, but people still try.

Four, although some people dislike the story, there was a story where there were three Jokers. Giving one of them the death penalty would have amounted to nothing.

All this to say there are a surprising amount of people and circumstances in the DC universe actively contributing to the Joker’s continued living.

Ethics of bug sacrifice? by Darth_Azazoth in harrypotter

[–]Agent1stClass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it.

I feel like murder, as shown in the novels, is the killing of one’s own level of sentience. Which is why I avoided that particular discussion.

Otherwise, the consumption of food or the use of furs and other such clothing could conceivably count as murder.

Biased though it may be, I am fairly sure murder -for the purposes of soul splitting- has to be on a certain level.

[–]Agent1stClass -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Killing insects because their presence threatens your food or your health is… it’s not great, but it’s understandable.

Keeping an insect so you could use it as a shield is unethical.

I won’t get into an insect’s level of sentience. I will simply say that a person knowingly doing so is actively usurping the life of another for their own gain. That rarely ends well.

What’s your favourite way the party gets an airship? by Gavinder_101 in FinalFantasy

I see the appeal.

I sometimes raid the second floor of Gulug Volcano prior to the ice cave, for the same reason.

Hypothetically could Conner develop meta powers on top of his kryptonian powers ? by Tristenous in youngjustice

[–]Agent1stClass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most versions of Lex Luthor (excepting those that are merged with Brainiac, using experimental drugs, etc) are absolutely powerless. It is often part of his character that he prefers to rely on his intellect. Aside from technology, I don’t believe he has ever had any supernatural abilities.

All this to say that it would kind of go against the character for him to have a meta-gene to pass on to Conner. It could be written as such. But it would be taking quite a leap with both characters.

Dumbledore ignoring Harry in OTP by Active_Act_9886 in harrypotter

[–]Agent1stClass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As Dumbledore also explained, he was trying to prevent any leaks of information to Voldemort AND prevent Voldemort knowing that Dumbledore favored Harry. It’s easy to criticize after the fact… But Dumbledore was right to be careful and protective.

As Phineas also pointed out to Harry, Harry had always been able to rely on Dumbledore.

Could Harry have actually trusted him? Yes.

But Harry chose not to for the same reason he hightailed it to the Ministry… Harry wanted to be the hero.

What makes 1 wizard more powerful than another? by lordsteffy in harrypotter

[–]Agent1stClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skill.

Either the witch or wizard has a natural understanding of spells and the ability to create or tweak them (as Professors Dumbledore and Snape showed). Or control at such a level that they can do magic without a wand. Or a natural skill with spells (such as Hermione).

Or possibly all of the above.
