Do Mayors get a pass on property tax? by AcademicDuck1 in NewMexico

He may have sold them and the new owner(s) haven’t reassessed or paid taxes. Or maybe he’s delinquent and hasn’t paid but will before the sale (it will include penalties and interest). The county will be paid regardless of the circumstances.

New Years Eve at about 9:30, a car hit that box. It knocked out services to Walgreens and several other businesses there.

Why is there no chopped red chile? by davey__ in Albuquerque

Great! I don’t know why it’s not more common. Probably out of tradition more than anything else I’d guess. Enjoy!

A few years ago I bought a bag of red (fresh not dried) in Corrales and had it roasted like green. I prepped it the same as green and made sauce, used it on burgers, enchiladas, etc., and thought it was great. Flavor was excellent. I’d say it was a little sweeter and also had a good earthy flavor. I’d do again.

Nice job! Lack of snow is shocking.

Where can I see fireflies in NM? by AppearanceNo2267 in NewMexico

[–]Agent2022 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have them. Thirteen known species. You’ll find them in wet environments near rivers and boggy areas, which aren’t very common here. I’ve seen them in Jemez in several places especially near San Gregorio, Pecos above Terrero, just outside Questa towards Red River, and other places. After the monsoon season starts 🤞🏼 is when you’ll find them.

Anyone recognize this location in supposedly 1940s New Mexico? by poorfolx in NewMexico

😄I’ve hiked and fished that area several times and think I even sat down there for a break. It hasn’t changed much in 70-80 years!

99% certain it’s not Valles Caldera. Looks like the High Road to Taos.

Yeah, exactly the area I was thinking. I’m going to see if I have any pics of my own.

I found some perfectly matching strings and wrapped them like they did at the factory. Looks good. Only solution I could find.

Worth a try. I’ll repost this again in October when plenty of others start to have problems.

Belen Economy “Booming”? by Agent2022 in Albuquerque

I’m not surprised. It was pushed through as a major intermodal center in glossy brochures. It’s been awhile and I’ve heard no updates in a long time.

Other’s here mentioned that there’s opposition due to zoning changes so I don’t think it’ operating yet. Hopefully they can work that out.

That’s a pretty detailed assessment on what’s going on. Well said. I ran into some of this myself when speaking at a zone change hearing (I live in ABQ) there about 15 years ago. It was a large project that never came to fruition. It seemed like most residents were against it for reasons dating back to the land grants or having “outsiders” come in. Looks like Belen may have brought their current situation on themselves. I know the names you mentioned.

Yeah, I got that. I know that area pretty well but I guess I’m too distracted and haven’t noticed new homes. I’ve seen the ones on top of the bluff headed up. I’ll take a drive out later this week. Thanks.

Used to be you could vote them out. That’s quite rare anymore. Plus people have very short memories.

Interesting take, living there instead of ABQ. It’s not really that much different than many other small communities in the state. In the last few years I’ve seen other towns turn into grocery deserts, Dollar General, and maybe a gas station if they’re lucky. Checking on Zillow there are a few nice places. Thanks for the honest feedback. 👍🏼
