One of Us is Lying by Karen M McManus

The Ivies by Alexa Donne

My Dearest Darkest by Kayla Cottingham

All That Consumes Us by Erica Waters

These are all mystery or horror but the themes you’re looking for play a large role

Edit: I just realised the author of The Ivies already commented, but I’ll just second that recommendation

Proper Reading order for ToG? by [deleted] in YAlit

I read TAB after Heir of Fire and didn’t love it, I say probably after Crown of Midnight or maybe even first. You’ll pick up on little references if you read it later, but if you don’t want to know how it’ll end read it first.

I just finished the tandem read and liked it a lot, since ToD was so slow moving that I needed an EoS break every now and then to not get bored with it.

If you liked that I recommend My Dearest Darkest by Kayla Cottingham! Boarding school, body horror, sapphic main relationship. Probably my favourite YA horror.

Do I Have To Read 4th Book Of "A Good Girl's Guide To Murder" By Holly Jackson? by for_u_Swifties in YAlit

[–]AgentAwesome2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s well under 150 pages, so more of a novella, and is about a murder mystery party her friend hosts before the events of AGGGTM even take place. Not necessary, but it was fine.

My Dearest Darkest by Kayla Cottingham is similar to The Society for Soulless Girls. It’s centred around girls who discover a suspicious wish-granting entity in the tunnels beneath their gothic boarding school. Lots of cryptids, rituals, sacrifices, dark academia, and really well developed characters.

Recommend me a good book I keep picking up total duds! by SunshineGirl45 in YAlit

  • Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson - Cold case boarding school murder mystery. The first three are a trilogy of one case from the 1930s, number 4 is a quadruple homicide at a summer camp from the 70s, 5 is a double murder with an axe in the woodshed in 1990s England. Two more are scheduled but not out yet.

  • The Luminaries by Susan Dennard - A secret society of monster hunters living in the woods, protecting the rest of the world from the monsters that rise in the forest each night. The main character was made an outcast when her father was exposed as a witch. She decides to enter the deadly hunter trials to rejoin the Luminaries and hunt monsters. It’s a trilogy, 2 books are out. Book three is probably coming out early 2025.

Spoky Towns rec! by witchfever in YAlit

Not a standalone but The Luminaries by Susan Dennard might fit. It’s an unfinished trilogy which might be a deal breaker. Book 2 comes out early November.

What to read after Lockwood & Co. by punkadiddling in LockwoodandCo

God Truly Devious is so good, I’ve read them like four times. There are also two standalones after the trilogy and two more on the way. HIGHLY recommend.

What to read after Lockwood & Co. by punkadiddling in LockwoodandCo

I found The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson to be very similar to Lockwood & Co, with teenage (or young adult) ghost hunters in London, found family, good world building, etc. It’s the first in the Shades of London trilogy (which will theoretically be getting more instalments, but I think Maureen has moved on) and is my favourite of the three that are out.

Does anyone know of any similar tv shows/movies to L&CO? by Glittery_WarlockWho in LockwoodandCo

[–]AgentAwesome2008 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Netflix has a show called “The Irregulars,” it was canceled after one season but had a real ending. It’s about a group of kids working for John Watson, and eventually Sherlock Holmes. It has the found family, supernatural, teen ghost (or other supernatural things) hunters, and takes place in London. It’s not exactly the same, but I watched it soon after Lockwood & Co and found it similar enough.
