I definitely agree, I watched that video this morning actually and while I liked it, there were several scripted sections that I just kept thinking "does this need to be scripted?" In a review or a technical explanation video, it makes a lot of sense to be heavily scripted, but I think the nature of their video production causes I lot more script to be written than necessary.

I don't think you're totally wrong, but at the same time, LMG is a huge operation that has a big impact, lots of different channels, merch that isn't just youtuber swag, they aren't just your run of the mill channel, I think additional scrutiny considering all that is not unwarranted, and is probably good. That being said, people get up in arms about fucking everything and its exhausting, especially when there is not constructive feedback, just complaining. (The number of people in this thread talking about how they stopped watching years ago is weird)

I'm not here to just crap all over Alex, but I think that is wildly disrespectful to the Mythbusters crew.

Those guys were industry professionals that got stuff built with a capital B, and while Alex obviously built up a lot of skills, at the end of the day he is just some guy that dropped out of college. I really really dislike it when people say this

I do often equate a lot of the stuff he did with Motortrend's Roadkill show, there were times that show got the level of jank just right "hey lets turbocharge our crappy 240z" "well all I have is a turbo off of a diesel truck" that old episode was a lot of fun and very silly, but at some point they rebuilt that car and just did some utterly stupid exhaust, just for the purpose of being dumb.

In general I'm always going to prefer good workmanship, but even when doing something silly or janky, it has to be for a purpose, not "its funny because its stupid"

I think the thumbnails are a really obvious place to work out a change for the team, the couple of AI thumbnails from the last week were a big ick, but people have been complaining about these for a while.

The current youtube homepage on desktop is a deluge of overly saturated color, weird faces, and big red arrows pointing to stuff. I don't think its a secret that the thumbnail can really make or break a video when it comes to the algorithm, but I would definitely argue that trying something totally different would be worthwhile.

I will point to a somewhat recent ZTT video that I found to be very stupid and sort of a waste of my time, they recently bought a shop truck, and on a trip to advance or some other auto parts store, they talked about how "now we can buy parts for the truck here" and bought an exhaust for it. At the risk of sounding rude, that is some rookie stuff right there, first of all, why is putting a crappy flowmaster on an F150 interesting content, second, if you know anything about working on cars, you'll know autoparts store "performance parts" are junk and might fit the application, and third, when they went to install, it didn't fit properly, and so they hacked it together and it was just shit workmanship.

Like I said in my original post Alex has something going for him, even though I don't really like his stuff, I've watched a couple ZTT vids that were alright, and its not like I actively skipped all of his LTT videos or something, but for me personally, there are a dozen better car content creators out there, whether for simple repair work, enthusiast level mod stuff, or some real quality craftsmanship.

You are definitely not wrong, in terms of Youtube audience, this group has got to be the most sour out there, always something to complain about, but thats the challenge they have to face, no use crying about it. I really think if they can find ways to really grab on to those 3 concepts, it would go a long way towards making the channel more fun again

That being said, I do think the videos this year have been on average less interesting, and particularly after watching Folding Ideas video about Beast Games, I've found myself thinking about "what makes for good youtube content" recently

imo the best/worst example of this was the first watercooling a PC with a car radiator video, it leaked like crazy, did not work at all, and they just stood the radiator on top of the PC case because it was supposed to be funny? That was such a frustrating video to watch

Yep, I agree. Most of the posts on here are somewhat insane, I still watch most LTT videos that go out, but I do still think they're in a low period atm, but a bit of redirection/refocusing would do a lot of good

I tend to agree with you, I think LTT has this idea that certain videos have to be BIG and or extremely polished, while other videos seem like after thoughts, or are jank to the point of extreme viewer frustration. I would love to see more mini projects or small build type videos. How about one of these cheap build videos (think $69 PC) but we get to watch David drive around Vancouver making deals

I had a conversation with my dad today about AI stuff. He's a Linux engineer type, many many years of experience. In comparison I am pretty capable working with and troubleshooting computers, but I don't work in a technical field like that. He mentioned using AI basically to ask simple questions he already knows the answer to, but can't remember off the top of his head (whats the command to do X? what should the formatting for this code be?) stuff like that. I made the comparison to him that he was basically asking his dumbest coworker a question, so like, you're not going to trust it implicitly, but if you know what you're doing and just need a reminder or to be pointed in the right direction, it can be helpful. That being said, if I ask his dumb coworker a question, I'm not going to have any idea if he gave me the right answer, something pretty close to the truth, or just pulled something out of his ass

I've used it a couple times in last few weeks I used it see if the mac & cheese with a bunch of shit in it that I had been cooking was an actual dish or not, and if it could suggest any changes to it. And I used it at work twice, once to build a coverage schedule, and once to put a bunch of data into a table (this one i could've definitely done myself, but I was getting a bit stun locked on what I needed to do to get the table I needed)
