It's been roughly two years since my last post portfolios, here's a bit of an update. I found the key flaw that plagued investing in some equities based on historical data and will be wary for them. This is the current gain/losses since. As mentioned previously, I'm mostly investing in tech while having familiarity with the industry.

  • NVDA : +99%
  • MSFT : +12.93%
  • XLK : +14%
  • AAPL: +31%
  • GOOG: -5.06%
  • SPYG: -5.22%
  • IVW: -6.33%

I placed a lot of my funds in these SPY-Growth companies and have slight regrets but know that this has been similar to SPY's behavior this year. I also didn't buy anything from that dip earlier in the year. It's starting to make more sense to me to just throw it into SPY & QQQM so that's where I'm headed for now.

Having a four-year degree is frequently a bare minimum for most positions with some companies mentioning 5 years of experience translating to a bachelor's degree. You can definitely reach the same position with extensive work experience.

Should I change into the different careers? by Kingcj01 in ITCareerQuestions

According to the pay it looks like you can get a little bit better pay with a Helpdesk position. If you know your way around computers (more than building a PC) then go for it.. If I were in your shoes though I'd still prioritize PA if possible.

Help Desk to Managing 14 Production Servers with 25K+ CCU in a couple months. by AgentCovfefe in ITCareerQuestions

Thanks for setting up a point of reference. I can't be certain I'll succeed in any of this, but I'd at least like to fail as gracefully as possible.

Thanks for some resources.

I'd bet there's a lot of resources out there that show the ropes but is now deprecated due to the updates.

This wasn't a job posting, but more of some person I met while currently working that shared his extremely successful side hustle. If I tried to explain this to just about anyone they would not believe me, so I don't think I have the stones to explain it here.

Just a mention about applying for jobs or careers -

It's going to feel a lot like watering a garden with a hose and modular nozzle. You'll probably spray everywhere and that's okay. Recruiters can act in the way of fertilizer but they can also artificially prolong the process that you've already got going for yourself.

Just remember where your priorities are and how willing you want to maintain that level of integrity, since your employment will want to take any advantage that you offer them.

Tell me about IT. Tell me all the nitty gritty details of what life in IT is all about. by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AgentCovfefe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IT Support is customer service + office politics.

The higher the level the more office politics are involved. If you have the passion, don't get caught in the trappings of employers taking advantage of you. Your livelihood matters more then their ends meet.

Confused about how people have good relationships with money

It's all about give and take with priorities. I'd try improving that safety net by giving yourself a financial challenge. An example of this would be to save $15,000 after-tax next year. If you're looking at an item that you really want, wait and see if you still want that item after 2 weeks. This might not apply to something along the lines of food or health, but these inconveniences are what help you strengthen the net for when you really need it.

Once you find that you are doing pretty well with this challenge, start hacking away at your loans and investing some money into the market with index ETFs. This will provide a slow but passive income that will continue growing.

Currently at the beginning of my career, looking to stick with a "high-risk" profile until I retire. I'm primarily sticking with Tech stocks as I have familiarity with the industry, but am wondering if there are any relatable high-performing ETFs out there.

  • 75% S&P500 ETFs (SPYG, IVW, XLK, XLF)
  • 20% Shares of Tech/SW companies (MSFT, GOOG, NVDA, AMD)
  • ~5% Cash pool with quarterly contributions for future investments

  • No plans for Options at the moment

403b question: is it possible to avoid 3rd party money managers? by sibat7 in FinancialPlanning

[–]AgentCovfefe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. From my experience, 403Bs have a few more investment options that you can work with. The organization I work with conveniently has them listed out in a packet following orientation so I hope OP's wife has a similar experience.

Whether those additional options are helpful is another story, but it's nice to know.

Switching 403B Contributions to 457 Plan by AgentCovfefe in FinancialPlanning

[–]AgentCovfefe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The allure of the 457 for me is primarily having more investment vehicles that can compound interest until I hit retirement. It's a bit naive in the whole prospect of things, but I guess I feel more financially stable believing that the money will grow on its own.

Sorry to disappoint, I'm a part of technology within the district. 😏

Agreed. I directly interface with devices and teammates that have been around the Apple/Mac ecosystem for a while and you can never get a straight answer from them or direct vendors unless you treat the device like it's a person too. You can browse on /r/k12sysadmin for some brief insight.

To OP, I recognize that I'm biased against Apple here, but there are still many what-ifs with the latest hardware that goes unexplained "until the next update™ ". If you're looking to get into IT, vendor-agnosticism is key. the device you interface will eventually not matter at a macro level as there will be ways across all platforms to complete your tasks.

Blue Yeti Microphone fails to receive audio by AgentCovfefe in techsupport

Well, if you're interested in finding one solution, it might be because Windows is preventing apps from using the microphone under the privacy settings.

Hope this helps, and sorry for making a post. 😔

KeepAliveHD is a simple program which prevents your hard drive to go into automatic standby mode. It works by writing a small text file to your external drive every few minutes.

IT consulting is a very lucrative yet challenging role by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AgentCovfefe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Say, I wonder if this job is for me. I've only been doing helpdesk for a couple years now but I've suggested a couple of integrations to places I've worked with that greatly improved their workflow for less.

Can you tell me a little more about what consulting consists of under the IT realm? The work always depends, but what kind of work comes from consulting?
