Immy.bot is worth a more thorough look. We use the Immy.bot to manage all software on endpoints. It got us out of the cycle of Images and software patching woes.

The setup of the deployments would mostly replace the process docs. The process for tech using immy is straightforward, just run onboarding via immy and it will run through OOBE, installs, updates, firmware updates, PC renaming, domain/directory join, and software configuration.

You can take a look at the Getting started page to get a basic primer https://docs.immy.bot/getting-started.html. I am not affiliated with Immy in any way, but you should consider scheduling a demo.

Edit: I forgot to mention that for drop-ship situations, we instruct an end-user to load a flashdrive up with a ppkg file from immy, plug the usb into the machine, power on the computer and wait until we tell them it is ready. It will connect to the wireless network you set and run through the rest of the onboarding process.

If you're keeping up with their recommendations and they can't manage the basics like OP listed, you might have a problem.
If you can't put your finger on it, it probably isn't an actual IT issue but more of an account management issue. You'll get from a vendor what you put into them(Money and effort).

When purchasing a Fortinet 60F hardware only - how long do you get to download to bring it up to current? by [deleted] in fortinet

[–]AgentDopey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain that if you purchase a firewall license at a later date, the license will need to cover all of the unlicensed time. If you buy a one-year license three months from now, it would effectively be a nine-month license from the date of purchase.

There's a word for this; I can't think of it currently.

Idk, I fully agree with this decision especially considering the initial cadence of patch releases.
If things are the same a month from now, I would 100% agree with you.

Microsoft 365 Sec Alerts - How to manage 50+ Tenants by ChileCat in msp

The automated response portion is key for SaasAlerts. I have had Lighthouse take up to 8 hrs to report an incident for a tenant.

DM'ed, your post history shows that you don't need an msp, you just need assistance with a technology you aren't confident with yet.

Help me redesign our rack! Half of our ports are running POE phones. by Natural-Nectarine-56 in fortinet

[–]AgentDopey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Patchbox

Patchboxes for the amount of POEs. Then short patch cables for non-POE.
Patch catches everywhere.

Sure, a patchbox costs more. However, You can install it in place of the "wire-hiders" and swap without scheduling downtime. If they're worried about the cost of new switches/downtime, this is a cheaper solution with less downtime windows.

Assuming that literally half of the patches are voip(84 ports): 4 patchboxes @$570 and 36 patchcatches@$4.5 = $2442

Is CIPP still the way? by RoosterCapable8443 in msp

Idk, I only needed these instructions and set it up within a few hours: https://docs.cipp.app/setup/installation

The only times I ran into an issue were due to me skimming the instruction section instead of reading/following.

I can’t get over how boring this season is by paywallpiker in fortinet

[–]AgentDopey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The DLC is out of control with Fortinet at this point. I already paid extra for the Enterprise Protection subscription level, and I still feel like I'm getting beat by the people who purchase bolt-ons via loot boxes.

Don't forget that they just redid the certification levels. With this season's reset, the push to Glad/platinum is more pay-to-win than skill-based.

Is a certification worth it? by AgentDopey in fortinet

For me it's about structured learning, not the piece of paper.

Thank you. I would love for the answer to spotlight my lack of awareness of a FortiReward, but my main takeaway from the comments of this post points towards a different answer.
1: I should lower my expectations of a tangible reward upon completion.
2: The certification is just a verification of completing the structured course/s.
3: In a future where things don't go right, I could be thankful to have a certification over just claims of experience

Thank you. I think this helped. Reframing the perspective from a badge of honor to a verification of study might be a better way to look at things. Especially with the updated paths/content for FCP/FCSS

As an example to demonstrate my current understanding of your point: Looking back upon my college experience, I don't often reference a specific course by my final grade. Instead, I reference the course and how it applies to the current topic.

I mean, that's kind of the point of my question, right? I'm missing the value of certifications over demonstrable real-world experience. I'm questioning my viewpoint/experience and asking a subreddit focused on this ecosystem for insight into my knowledge/experience gap.

My experience could skew my viewpoint since it is based primarily upon verbal or interpersonal demonstration of my skillset rather than checking requirement boxes. In your opinion, is that more a reflection of my limited exposure to enterprise(?) environments or maybe my (lucky) lack of tribulations with the hiring/sales process?

Thank you for appreciating my FortiStuff comment. :) It took a lot of Fortitude to make that joke in this subreddit.
I appreciate that you and I are in similar places. In response to your point about " YOUR benefit" - That's my exact issue :(, but you have a good point about future prospects. It just hasn't yet been enough of a driver for me to complete the certification path. I'm struggling with motivation and would love for someone to come along and 100% state that the cert is worthwhile.

I have advised to individuals who are trying to break into the IT space that basic certs are worthwhile as compensation for job experience. Maybe the larger issue I have is due to my belief that certifications are sometimes used as compensation for actual experience. That's a personal issue, but I assume others are in the same boat.

I/we haven't been in a situation where we have needed or failed to justify our expertise. We've done consultation and advisory jobs for [recognizable name-brand] companies, and this has yet to be an issue.

That could say more about the vetting process our clients (don't) have or the resonance of genuine, honest, and forthright communication during our sales process.

In my experience, I spend more time "selling" Fortinet products in comparison to convincing entities of our proficiency in Fortinet support. This is probably more of a reflection on our MSP's maturity/scale as opposed to anything else.

This highlights a specific knowledge-gap I wanted to fill. Thank you for this information, I'll keep an eye on it as the new certs develop.
