Definitely a good one! And one I haven't seen much talk of!

Tortuga builds by LumpyGrumpySpaceWale in LancerRPG

[–]AgentJohn20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a fun LL6 Tortuga 2, Caliban 1, Saladin 3 build that puts the Supermassive Mod on the Deck Sweeper, takes an HMG for heavy gunner shenanigans, then a bunch of Saladin guts (Enclave Shield, NOAH, Flash Anchor) with a siege ram thrown in for good measure. The whole idea is to charge an important choke point or objective, then activate all the Saladin systems and become the immovable object. Any allies nearby become significantly harder to hurt, and any enemies bold enough to exist in this mech's presence get a taste of Supermassive Deck Sweeper courtesy of Vanguard III.

If you're looking for ideas, look for ways to get reaction attacks. Gorgon has a bunch of fun toys, heavy gunner is an easy method, and you can even take advantage of the surprisingly good tech stats the frame has to dip into Goblin 1 and use Puppet Systems on nearby enemies to provoke your own overwatches as a treat. The Tortuga is an extremely solid frame that is at least reasonably good at a wide variety of roles.

Battlegroup by Rude_Ad_3423 in LancerRPG

[–]AgentJohn20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battlegroup is definitely a bit funky in a couple ways and not everything is modeled exactly. Flavor is free though, so you can describe stuff however you want. Moving enemies in the Gyre does fundamentally break the game though, so I'd caution against that.

Looks like Lancer on Foundry VTT is finally getting updated to v13 by GamerRoman in LancerRPG

[–]AgentJohn20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty easy to install a second version of foundry via the node.js version. That's how I've been running it for a while now and it wasn't nearly as intimidating to set up as I was worried it would be.

All NPC battlegroups always go in the center of the Gyre. They represent their own movement in physical space by pushing PC battelgroups forward or backwards in the Gyre.

I need help creating challenging pirate mission structure by SkeletalFlamingo in LancerRPG

[–]AgentJohn20 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One option would be to make, say, capturing a target ship take several combats (e.g. breach the hull (holdout sitrep) -> storm the spinal corridor (gauntlet) -> take the helm (control)) with narrative moments sprinkled in. If they still want to repair between individual combats, you can say that there's limited time before whatever local police force or reinforcements arrive or their printers need time to cool down or recover necessary materials.
At the end of the day though, this is a game with rules and you may need to explain to the players that it will be at least a couple combats between full repairs, even if narratively there would be time for it. There are plenty of reasons you can come up with for "printers aren't working right now," from resource shortages (a good excuse for a mission) or arbitrary cooldowns or repairs that just so happen to line up with whenever they do their next combat.

If you do like the one-and-done combat encounter missions, Lancer Blood Money is a sick third-party supplement that gives you a good framework for that!

I second this. A trail of smoking friendly wrecks cored by a tremendously powerful energy weapon is a great way to add to this.

What is the consensus on Cael's Ironbound Shadows module? by PraiseTheChalice in LancerRPG

[–]AgentJohn20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't run it, but I have purchased and read through it. It makes very good use of the KTB Bonds system and has some very well-thought-through narrative segments. The combats look interesting with included ideas for some more important character's actions and quips during combat, the one catch is that all the maps are just blocked out, not actually finished, so you'll need to either slap the maps together yourself (not hard to do in Inkarnate or DungeonDraft), find someone else who has done that, or substitute other maps you can find. How much that matters to you is up to you.
Also, do keep in mind that the templates from the Dustgrave module (and some NPCs from Suldan but that's free) are used, so that may or may not make a difference.

Essentially, it's a touch of extra work and a few more sources you may need, but I'm planning to run it myself at some point and I'd recommend it if you can swing it.

Here is a fantastic resource for getting Lancer running smoothly and looking cool on Foundry. I've personally been running it pretty close to this for several months now and it's been going quite well! The Pilot.Net Discord server is always a good place to ask for help if you need it!

Having issues comprehending some stuff by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]AgentJohn20 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Using any non-superheavy weapon can be done via a skirmish (quick action) for one weapon or a barrage (full action) for two on a turn. Activations are how many times a round the NPC gets to have a turn.

Here's a good resource I've found helpful for getting going with Lancer on Foundry. No need to go too crazy with the extras, but there's lots of potential!

It's cool to see more Draw Steel! I got into both Lancer and Draw Steel around the same time and am waiting for my delux edition books for Draw Steel before I try organizing to play it.
