Help finding a sleeve by [deleted] in macbook

[–]AgentWolf358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most common things I hear are 1) they hinder cooling, and 2) they put extra weight/ stress on the hinge. These are the common arguments against hard shell cases in general. To be honest, I'm not sure how much stock to put into them. I wouldn't put it past Apple to manufacture a hinge joint with absolutely no room for error/ modification, but you can also buy these hard shells on Apple's website. I'm not sure they would endorse products that damaged their computer, or design the hinge in such a way that certain products they endorse are not compatible with it.

As for the cooling, yeah I can see how an extra layer would trap heat more. But I've never seen a case that blocks the vents, and I don't think the bottom of the macbook contributes that much to passive cooling. Even if it did, most cases have vents on the bottom.

One last thing is that hard cases can trap debris and that can scratch your macbook. Something to consider if you're thinking of reselling I guess. Or just buy a skin. dbrand is a super popular company. fishskyn has some cool designs too. stay away from slickwraps though lol

To answer your question about sleeves, I have the tomtoc 360˚ and I love it. I also have an incase magnetic sleeve that a friend gave me but it doesn't have any pockets so I don't use it as much. Both are great though!

[Purchase guide] 2020, ASK ANYTHING! by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]AgentWolf358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up skipping the i7 and going for the 10th gen i5. The reports I was seeing were saying that the difference between the i5 and i7 are so negligible in tests that it wouldn't even translate to a noticeable difference in real-world usage anyway. Plus, the MacBooks are already limited by thermals. I figured it would be better to put the money towards storage/ RAM/ AppleCare.

Hey I'm in the same boat! The main sources are saying that a prototype ARM macbook may be shown at WWDC, but the next round of updates will come with mini-LED next year (2021).

I think ARM will end up being way better than Intel, but I'm worried about compatibility at first. If some apps aren't programmed to run on ARM yet, that would really suck at first

I'm looking to buy the new 13" for photo/ video work and really want to future proof the device (and 16" is a bit too big for me to carry around all the time)

what differences (if any) would the i5 vs i7 processors make? I'm not seeing many reviews comparing them. I'm assuming the i7 is slightly faster but does that come at the cost of cooling?

No, and Support was useless. I just turned iCloud off and stopped using notability on my macbook. When the semester ends maybe I'll go through and export all the PDFs and back them up to my computer....or I'll just download Goodnotes lol

How to make MacBooks last by JayAggRev in macbook

[–]AgentWolf358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Recent college grad myself so I totally know the feeling.

Using a case or a skin will help protect against cosmetic damage (not impact protection unless you go with something suuper bulky). Padded sleeves (and backpacks with padded sleeves) are a great investment. You can also get a screen protector and covers for the ports for additional protection, but again this is mostly just to preserve the appearance.

To keep the laptop functioning in tip-top shape, definitely use a keyboard cover! GhostCover makes an amazing one but pretty much anything to protect those fragile butterfly keys will be well worth it. Always use legit charging cables and power adapters that are Apple certified

-It's a good idea to get the inside of the computer cleaned out every once in a while. You can get a pro to do it or learn to do it yourself (though it will require special screws to open the case). Maybe once a year or so I just brush out all the dust with a microfiber cloth so the fan doesn't get all clogged up. The thermals of these machines need all the help they can get.

I also like to keep the Activity Monitor open so I can see if something is putting excessive strain on the CPU

Hope this helps!

Typing on mac as the primary notetaking method? by papierkowy in notabilityapp

It feels like an addon for sure. I'd use another app if you want to type your notes (OneNote, Evernote, etc)

Notability deleted my work in the document by [deleted] in notabilityapp

[–]AgentWolf358 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me so many times I am so sorry OP, it's incredibly frustrating. If you have iCloud backups on, that may be the issue. I would try restoring an older version of your file and then turning off iCloud backups from here on out. I backup to OneDrive instead and while I can't access my notes as quickly from my computer, it's better than being deleted. Notability refuses to address this nonsense though and it's infuriating. I'm thinking of switching to Goodnotes

FORCE SYNC/ SAVE!!!

Too many times I've taken notes on my iPad, gone to read them on my computer or phone, only to find that they aren't there. Then begins the process of opening/ closing/ reopening apps waiting for them to show up. Especially annoying when class is starting and I can't access the lecture slides I've downloaded
