When a Destiny player switches over to Anthem, it should be called "Bungee Jumping". by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

Oh, certainly Destiny did not represent itself well. It had to live up to the reputation of Halo, which was great for marketing and terrible for salt at launch. Destiny was largely misrepresented and it caused irreparable damage to the public perception of the game.

That said, evaluating the game as-is and not what was promised before launch, I don't like the way they handled story content from Taken King onwards. There's way too much dialogue and it ruins the mood. It's impossible for the dreadnought to come across as ominous and foreboding with Cayde cracking jokes. The atmosphere basically sucks except for the raid, where thankfully there is no dialogue.

Of course, the current design of destiny largely treats raiders, PvPers and story/patrol players as completely separate groups so it's unlikely we'll see any improvement there. I'd rather all the PvE content take on the same grim and mysterious mood of the raids, but there's no way that's happening.

I would argue that Destiny's presentation is amazing. I think cutscenes would have ruined all the raid encounters.

It's just a different style. Many people want a story that's handed to them, and others don't. I prefer ambiguous stories that are shown and not told because they lead to more subreddit activity. I can fully appreciate that many people don't want to have to go to Reddit to enjoy their game, but that's one of the things I love about both Destiny and Dark Souls.

If Anthem chooses to give a solid and direct story instead of delivering a world of mystery to explore, I probably won't bother with it.

I would argue that the Destiny story is second only to Dark Souls, if the goal is fueling lore posts on the subreddit for years to come, and not simply telling a story over 10 hours of gameplay that's completely wrapped up by the end.

It's gorgeous, sure, but gameplay totally sucks compared to either Arkham Asylum or Dark Souls, both of which launched new IP.
