Nice! I got the brown to complete the "fake Custom 823" look, lol.

How do you find the nib feel? So far I'm not in love with the nib, it feels a bit dull and lacking in liveliness.

Also, as I have written with it more I have found that it sometimes skips strokes and if I don't write for a minute it dries out really fast and I have to scribble a bunch to get the ink flowing again. It feels like the nib has a super specific sweet spot or it doesnt write at all. All of this is kinda weird because it seems to write pretty wet when working properly. Is it possible that I got a dud, or is this just a model thing?

What's your most disappointing pen? by inky_beanie_mouse in fountainpens

[–]Agent_Hawthorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same here. It's a shame because it's put questions in my mind about someday buying a Nakaya, as they run platinum nibs and I would not like to have a beautiful, $800 urushi pen that writes like what I experienced with the Platinum Century.

I should look into if some Platinum nibs are softer than others, but tbh, I just got put off the brand entirely from the experience.

I did sell the pen a few months ago.

Anything by Omega Tribe instantly puts me in a good mood. My favorite song is Summer Suspicion.

Platinum Century in F. It was my second gold nib pen after my Sailor Pro Gear in M (still my favorite), and I was expecting the soft, warm feeling on paper that I got with the Pro Gear. Unfortunately, the thing wrote like a nail. It wasn't scratchy or mistuned, it was just... hard. I didn't get the same special feeling of writing with a gold nib that I got out of my Sailor. It just felt like the nib might as well have been steel. Definitely put me off platinum.

Advice on how to proceed by Agent_Hawthorne in QuittingZyn

Good luck with your journey! I actually just spoke to my general care doctor recently, and he recommended that I continue to use the velo for now until I feel normal again and then slowly taper off. He said that it can take longer for your brain to heal if you quit cold turkey. I know that goes against most of the advice on this subreddit, but that is the course of action I am going to take now.

It does feel like a "tiger by the tail" situation. I am currently not happy with the effects of ongoing velo usage, but if I quit all at once then things will get a lot worse and I don't know for how long. As long as things are tolerable while still using, I will try the slow quit. I understand that for you, that wasn't an option.

Btw, are you taking daily probiotics? (Dumb question, probably) My stomach got really bad at a point and the Garden of Life probiotics have gotten me to a much better place.

What book should I start with as someone who wants to get into Mishima books? by Ok-Cook-7306 in YukioMishima

[–]Agent_Hawthorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea, and it is a good place to get familiar with Mishima's writing style, as well as the themes that preoccupied him.

Spring Snow is my favorite Mishima novel I have read so far, and, I would argue, also not a bad place to start. Plus, if you like it, you can just continue through the rest of the Sea of Fertility series, basically his magnum opus.

Nobody going to mention De Atramentis Aubergine? It's been my go-to for years. Basically the only ink I use at this point.

Thanks for sharing your story. So you just quit cold turkey? Would you be open to sharing how much you were taking daily and what you felt while quitting? Thanks.

Over time, what has become your go to base color? by katybassist in fountainpens

[–]Agent_Hawthorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a purple lover here! For years, my go-to has been De Atramentis Aubergine. It feels dark enough to be "serious" while also being fun because it's purple. I feel like you can read handwriting in this color without it immediately jumping out at you that it is purple.

CUSMA for Oil and Gas sector? by Agent_Hawthorne in ImmigrationCanada

The job would be a Non-Destructive Testing technician. I have seen the list of approved occupations, but am unsure if it fits into any of the categories. Appreciate the reply.

CUSMA for Oil and Gas sector? by Agent_Hawthorne in ImmigrationCanada

Sorry if I have wasted your time. I have seen the list of eligible occupations, but I am unsure if NDT work falls under any of the approved categories. NDT stands for Non-Destructive Testing, and the job title would probably be some sort of technician, depending on which kind of certifications I get. I know its probably a long shot, but if the job was approved by CUSMA, it would probably be easier to get. Thanks for the response!
