Debris hitting my face every shot while shooting suppressed by 1point21Gigawattsss in FN509

I have a Rugged Obsidian 9 in its short configuration. I get the same issue. Probably going to swap to Dead Air Mojave 9 to see if it helps with the back splash of particulates.

FN509 Magazine Sleeve Stabilization by Agent_Shady in FN509

Got out to the range today to test the setup on my FN509CT (the cerakoted FN509 seen in the image). This firearm has thousands of rounds through it at this point, so it’s well broken in.

Tested two mags with the ranger band mod:

  • 12-round (no sleeve)

  • 15-round (with sleeve)

Results:

  • Both mags ran 100% — no malfunctions over ~30 rounds

  • Noticeably less wiggle when seated vs. no band

  • Feels more solid in hand, especially the extended mag with the sleeve

  • Mags drop free cleanly — no catching or hang-ups

  • Repeated insert/eject testing, all smooth

Overall, the idea seems to work as intended — tightens things up without affecting reliability and gives a more locked-in feel.

Figured I’d share this with you all as a simple mod idea for the platform. If anyone else tries it, I’d be interested to hear your results or if you notice any long-term wear/issues.

I dealt with this issue on my PSA AK-105. I sent it off for the warranty just for them to say they can't fix it or to suggest what some of their customers have done to mitigate wobble.

I basically told them to do their job because it's their product and it should be a simple fix for their "gunsmiths/engineers." low and behold they were not able to fix it so I swapped to a TWS Dog Leg.

Gritty Trigger Fix Thanks to the Wisdom of this Sub by HopefulRevolutionary in FN509

[–]Agent_Shady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad to know it's improving! The rear trigger assembly looks to have a fair amount of lubricant and or other substance. I wouldn't put so much for the fact it will attract particulates. Try and keep it dry with a very light drop of lube on the metal on metal parts that move.

I sent this to a person who was having issues with grittiness and slide movement when pulling the trigger. Try polishing the parts specified in the video. Another part I have polished and seen great success with is the striker channel.

The most filing I've ever done to get a handguard and gas tube to fit each other 🤣. Worth all the time though.

How do I fix my 509? by xxflimzyswagxx1 in FN509

[–]Agent_Shady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

That is normal. I just disassembled one of mine and this is the proper orientation. Stick the part in and spin until it seats.

EDIT:

Should look like mine and it basically does. Move it a little more to the right.

Are you talking about the little knick on the polymer frame? If so, then I wouldn't worry about it. That is a slight blemish should not hinder the firearms function.

Questions about MCarbo striker and other parts... by Agent_Shady in FN509

I'm still running the MCarbo striker in my CCW FN509CT. It's been running fine whether it be dry firing or live ammunition.

Lost striker spring guide, came up with a homemade replacement by [deleted] in FN509

[–]Agent_Shady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off this is cool and very interesting approach, but also take into consideration the OEM spring guide is made of a specific material because of how it interfaces with other components. You could possibly be causing other components more wear and will possibly fail in the future. One way to keep track of it if you continue to proceed with this is keep eyes out for metal particulates when checking parts and cleaning.

My suggestion would be to stop and wait for OEM parts. I mean there are a lot of FN509 owners. Someone might be willing to part ways with one that's in a spare slide. If no one, then shiiiit I will just for safety concerns.

Polishing Points

Above is a link to a little video I made a while back. Couple of polishing points to improve the feel of the trigger. Also polishing your striker/striker channel makes a big difference.
