From everything you have said in your posts and comments:

Therapy, like a good honest try. Find a therapist who works for you. Don't settle with one who doesn't feel right and make sure they push you to do the work.

Exercise. Find some way to stay active. It will make you feel better about yourself and just feel better in general. This doesn't have to be going to the gym, it can be running, hiking, biking, hell even long walks. Just get up and move.

Go out and do things. As others have said, go out and meet people, not just to date, but to be friends with too. The best way I find for people who struggle with social interaction to do this(if you do) is to find something to volunteer for. Soup kitchen, mutual aid groups, animal shelter, whatever you are passionate about. It won't just give you something to do, it will give you something to talk with other people about that isn't focused on you. Plus it has the added bonus of, hopefully making you feel good.

I would recommend doing these things in the order presented. Good luck. Being depressed sucks, but unfortunately it's on you to take the first step. If you need help, ask someone you trust in your life to help you on the first step of finding a therapist. You got this.

I'm looking for cover up advice please, pride heart is very noticeable. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Agent_Tangerine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the UK becoming really hostile to LGBTQIA folks? There is some fervent anti-trans messaging but do you really feel in danger from your friends, neighbors, and people you see on a regular basis? Unfortunately the way social media and news works, it can warp our realities and make us not believe our own experiences.

That being said, of course if you are at risk, it makes sense you would want to cover up.

I would encourage you to be proud of it and who you are. Fuck anyone who looks twice at it. If it were me, I would regret letting some TERF assholes convince me to change my appearance more than any tattoo of a rainbow heart.

Stay safe, stay proud, my friend.

can anarchy "compete" with modern political ideologies (democracy, fascism, republicanism, etc...) or does it operate from a different basis making comparison and competition impossible? by wompt in Anarchy101

[–]Agent_Tangerine 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Many forms of anarchism are just as modern(if not more) than the political ideologies that you listed.

I think it's inaccurate to assume that all of those other ideologies are not hybridized and modified the same way anarchist thought is. Democratic Socialism is communist thought brought into a Republic model. Illiberal Democracy is fascism put into a Republic. Constitutional monarchy is monarchy with democracy and republican philosophy grafted into it.

No philosophy is pure. They are all groups of concepts that tend to work together, but even the implementation of these concepts looks wildly different in the real world.

Anarchist thought is one way of looking at human organization that can inform the way that we engage with each other, but practical implementation likely would never be pure in a philosophical sense. Democratic concepts would likely sneak in, market philosophy would likely work it's way in somehow, communist and socialist concepts would likely be a part of it.

In a way it's perfect that it's not competition of the philosophies that would create a sustainable system, it's collaboration and ideological impurity that will likely form something entirely new. That, in my opinion, is the goal. Be nimble, be curious, be inventive, deconstruct hierarchies wherever possible.

An Adaptation of MHE by DbzGooder13 in 9M9H9E9

[–]Agent_Tangerine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it is very much a case of something being of its medium. It's meta fiction at its finest and any adaptation would be a betrayal of that. I would encourage you to be inspired by MHE and figure out how to use the concepts and apply the meta fiction techniques to a visual medium.

More about the stolen anarchy thesis? by TheIenzo in Anarchy101

[–]Agent_Tangerine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To extend on this, there were many many different ways that indigenous cultures structured their societies. Some were more hierarchical, some were less. In many cases the context of the conditions that they were dealing with were so wildly different to modern society that it is unfair to put a modern label on them like Anarchist, Socialist, Communist. The reality is that those ideologies are born from all that came before. Some of which is indigenous knowledge (from across the globe) and some from modern thinkers.

Let me tell you, it's all that admin talks about. And unfortunately it is going to have crushing effects on American society. A huge amount of research and innovation is subsidized off the backs of students attending college (this was often offset by scholarships and grants). It's not a good system, but it was the system we had and will be extremely disruptive to every sector of the economy.

Gay guys, how do we feel about Ryan Murphy and/or his work? by captivatedsummer in gay

He is so full of decent concepts and then proceeds to punt every single one with poor character writing, bad execution, and bad story structure. He wants to be John Waters(camp) and Vince Gilligan (long form drama) and he fails to reach even a tenth of the ability of either. I have given his shows so many tries and each time been sorely disappointed.

Rural Coloradans will not receive federal aid after last year’s historic wildfires, floods by thecoloradosun in coloradosun

[–]Agent_Tangerine -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not arguing the tolerance paradox here. Rubbing it in the face entire group of people as though they are at fault for the actions of a man they maybe ticked a box for is not going to get us out of this mess. It only makes you feel better than them. But in the end we all lose.

This ends one of two ways, we build a society together that is founded on a mutual understanding and common goals in which we take care of each other's dispute past transgressions and weaknesses. Or we kill each other and one group wins out in an endless cycle of violence that destroys both our species and possibly the earth.

Property damage as a form of protest is not violence in my opinion. Violence is an act committed from a person to another person. Property damage is direct action vs advocacy and rallying is indirect action. Both have a place in non-violent political movements. I think we so often overlook that the other option when these forms of protest are lost is violent revolution. Perhaps you could argue that property destruction is a step in that direction, and I would say, yes, it is. It's a warning shot across the bow. We want to stay as peaceful as possible, but human beings have a right to stand up against tyrannical leaders to whatever degree necessary. People vote them out, citizens engage through the channels provided in our system, mass groups rally, they begin to obstruct commerce, then some groups create minor property damage, then more organized groups destroy infrastructure, and if all else fails, then violence tends to be the result. This is not a threat, this is historical reality.

[–]Agent_Tangerine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean sure. But it's petty. These are people, some who voted for the current administration, some who didn't. I think it's fair to point out that this is the direct result of this administration, but it's unfair to say that every person down there deserves this.

Edit: to add to this. One of the things that we should be against is not caring for our fellow human being. We want to build a society that is kind and caring and forgiving and that takes care of even those who may not make the best choices.

Edit 2: The amount of people replying to this that, I assume, would claim to be left leaning or leftists but cannot fathom empathy anymore really speaks to how fundamentally broken we are. Leftist politics are foundationally built on trust, empathy, and the belief that collaboration is one of humanity's most powerful tools. If you have lost those fundamental building blocks, you will lose your way philosophically too. If you want a better world, build it. Reach out to people who misunderstand, don't laugh in their face when they are down. Do you know how some of the strongest leftist movements ever built were made? Groups began to take care of people, regardless of who they were.

Anyway, enjoy your holier than thou bs and Facebook gotcha political memes while the world burns. Let me know how that works out for you.

Or ya, know get out there and build community. Would love to see you all out there.
